"GameCube" not living up to expectations!!!!
« on: May 16, 2001, 06:10:12 PM »
After looking at all the game cube screens and video\'s and getting the facts, it seem as if GC is not as powerful as we thought.

It turned out that Metroid and Donkey Kong Racing (two best looking GC games ever shown) were pre-rendered movies.

Metroid and DKC pre-rendered shot with motion blur:

here is another pre-rendered shot oh Metroid

Super Smash Pro real-time shot. If you look at closely at the pic you will see for instance the water effects are bland, and dull.  Also there is jaggies around Donkey Kong and the tress, the backround is seems to be flat, just look at the tress and the characters are not very detailed.

Well hopefully all this will be improved around launch, cause if this is what nintendo has in store ,then they have a **** load of work to do. Right now i will wait to see the rest of E3 in order to get a better idea of what Nintendo has up there sleves.

It\'s really to early to make judgement, but most of the GC games all have kiddy colorful looks to them.

Well the Metroid and DKR are obviously prerendered (unlike what Kituka said in the "THE DEFINITIVE THREAD for excellent E3 PS2 and GC games" thread).  Super Smash Bros 2 is probably the best looking game for the NGC so far(IMO).  Luigi\'s Mansion is also looking good.  The NGC is definitely still a kiddie console though, and for that reason, I am not interested in it.

heh TheOgodlyThing,don\'t be so scared and paranoid :) j/k....actually like you the GC showings haven\'t totally impressed me either,i\'ve only been impressed by one GC title so far (RS2),i guess i\'m too grown up now to get all giddy-girly over Donkeykong / Mario & Luigi, plus the like...Metroid could be very cool, but not enough shown yet. the same thing occured with the Xbox to me too though, nothing really sticks out except Halo and so far what has been seen of it is not the mind blowing game every Xbox fan said it was going to be. maybe all the PS2 hype was right afterall??..hmmm..hehee

Are you all daft??? Starfox, Luigi, Eternal Darkness, and that Smash Bros shot even all look *great*! I\'m going to pester EB this weekend about reserving both GC and XB. If you aren\'\'t convinced by the shots thus far, just wait \'til E3\'s finished.

The game looks a lot better in action. Just download this and see for yourself.

Good, but nowhere near the quality of the Luigi video I posted.

XBOX is still running on phase 2 beta kits(50 % of XBOX\'s power), developers are probably getting the final dev kits some time after E3

God damnit.
Im getting so sick of that "Running on %50 power" excuse.
The launch of the Xbox is like 5 months away.
Do you think they are going to get those dev kits and make games within those 5 months.
And thats if its released today.
Now, So far Im impressed with the XBox, but please STOP using the 50% power crap.
Sometimes I think MS just says that to excuse bad looking Photos, or when they dont live up to expectations.

Oh gee, i\'m sorry for pointing out the facts, unfortunaly tiss the truth. Wheater or not the developers have a enough time to take adavntage of it, which i\'m sure they will, the fact of the matter remains that xbox will be equipped with the NV2A, a chip that is much more powerful than the one being currenlty used to develop the games. So just imagine how much more powerful the games will become.

ok,so when will we see the games running on completed hardware then? honestly i don\'t think the games will be that much different than how you see them today (except for added textures & effects). the expected "mind-blowing" graphics probably won\'t happen until next year, but then PS2 / GC games will be at another level of graphic heights,so there still won\'t be this amazing leap you and other Xbox fans are hoping for over PS2. i\'m the skeptic here on this forum and will remain so until proven otherwise :)

Microsoft stated a few months ago that they have already STARTED producing the Xbox for the consumer market. If this is so, and the NV2A isnt released yet, are the first set of Xbox\'s not going to have to NV2A in it.

LOL, were do you come up with this stuff. The developers such as EA etc.. said 3-4 days ago that they did not yet recieve the NV2A, also MS said that HALo and the other games shown at E3 are not going to be running on FINAL DEV KITS

As for the XBOX not shiping with the NV2A, well that\'s dumbest thing i\'ve ever heard.

starting production could be the making of the cases controller the intial circuit boards and PIII  processor the HD and ethernet adapter

and then add the Nvidia chip as it rolls off its production lines.

Also MS announced 1 month ago that Final Dev kits we\'re being shipped.

We\'ll see, Xbox definelty has some strengths in the graphic departments

as for GC, so far its a mixed bag for me. I\'ve never been a Nintendo fan so my opinion is definelty biased, but so far I haven\'t seen enough realtime in game screens of the games I would be interested in

I\'m sure things will be more clear in a day or 3
