I\'m sorry to break this to you, but U2 sucks.  I don\'t have their most recent record, but the stuff I\'ve heard, like what they constantly play on the radio, just completely lacks balls.  No surprise, they\'ve been like that for a long time now.  It\'s getting to where they\'re almost as bad as Sting.  What I don\'t understand is why their stuff gets played on youth-oriented alternative rock stations.  There\'s nothing alternative about them; they should be on an adult contemporary/easy listening station or something.  I can only imagine that their record label invested BIG bucks in kickbacks to get them played.  Then people figure, "if it\'s played on KROQ, it must be cool....  I guess I like it!"  Well guess again.  They are totally over the hill.

hahahaha. Great music never dies my friend, never. U2 is actually returning to their roots on this latest album. Pop was my favorite album by them (believe it or not) but was way to technoy and rocky for them. If you listen to their old stuff, alot of it like Unforgettable Fire, War, Boy, etc have the lighter tracks you hear on ATYCLB. It is a great album, not as good as their old ones, but easily holds its own against any other music that is realeased in this money-hungry, face-hungry world.

BTW, U2 is REAL alternative. Crap like Sugar Ray, The Wallflowers, Blink 182, 3eb, etc. are not. They and bands like Big Head Todd, REM, The Cure, and others FOUNDED alternative.

The Cure is awesome, but you forgot bands like Depeche Mode, The Smiths. :)

My general opinion now\'a\'days is the term "alternative" is so loose anything can fit into that catergory.

On the topic of great bands like REM, has anyone had the chance to enjoy their new album? I didn\'t get to pick it up, but I\'m curious how good it is. The new Depeche Mode album kicks ass. Oh and Robert Smith is in the process of recording a solo album which is being produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails fame.
:)

Classic music never dies. May it be Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Temptations, Depeche Mode, The Cure, U2, REM, or anyone else. Good music never dies.

Seriously, I would never go see \'em, but, c\'est la vie.  Yer choice.  Going to a good show is always awesome, no matter who it is yer going to listen to.  So, congrats, enjoy the show.

Boy, I love concerts.  All concerts.  I enjoyed myself immensely, and must say that they\'re excellent live (though their songs don\'t capture the crowd as well as some bands do live... Radiohead for instance :D)

Those of you who say U2 sucks (and by the way, they did suck for a while, but they\'re gettin\' better), you should realize that:

1)  U2 even thinks they blew for a while.  Bono mentioned that a few times.

2)  They play all their good songs, from Mysterious Ways to Pride, Discotheque to Elevation, New Years Day to Where the Streets have No Name.  All the classics.

3) Everybody\'s got different taste in music, and it\'s (almost) never wrong.

There were only two bad parts:

1) The guys in front of us were smokin\' up, which normally I could care less about, but they were using chronic, and it stinks compared to pot.

2) I had to drive 1000 km between 12:30 pm and 3:30 am the next morning to see em.  (Ottawa-Toronto-Ottawa in one night).

Their best songs are in order of my favs:

1)New Years Day and Sunday Bloody Sunda (Live Under a Blood Red Sky)

2) Please (Pop)

3) Bullet the Blue Sky (The Joshua Tree)

4) Seconds (either War or Boy, I cant remember)

5) Party Girl (Unforgettable Fire)

6) Where the Streets Have No Name (The Joshua Tree)

thats a few of them. They truly are one of the greatest rock bands!

Living - is the new Robert Smith album supposed to be more Cure-ish or NiN-ish? Disentegration is one of my all time favorite albums and I would love to see another of that caliber. I got the new REM album, and it takes a few days to get used to, but when you do, it is definetly a destined classic. some great songs arenumber 4,1,2,8, and 6. sold album, much lighter than New Adventures, but alot deeper than Up.

Depeche Mode\'s new album soudns great, I am glad to see them back on the scene. The Smiths are definetly one of the founders of true alternative too, they slipped my mind though :)
