What is it about rock?

You know, everyone is talking about modern rock, which in my opinion isn\'t nearly as good as the older stuff.

If you want to hear some really good music check out...

  • Led Zepplin  - Jimmy Page and Robert Plant just kick ass..
  • Pink Floyd - Check out "Darkside of the Moon" or "The Wall", both are excellent cd.
  • Jimi Hendrix  - How could we forget this legend?
  • The Doors - My single favorite band ever. Check out their original self-titled album and go to the very last track, \'The End\'.

That is just a few of the older bands that just kicked total ass. A lot of the modern stuff is much more "pop", except things like Slayer, Cannibal Corspe and Cradle of Filth and really that is a whole other catergory (see: death metal).

Classic rock is good and I still know the words to almost every Van Halen song.  But they\'ve just been played to death and we need something fresh.

Actually, Slayer is a Thrash Metal band, and Cradle of Filth is a Black Metal band, Cannibal Corpse is the only death metal band amongst those you mentioned. They are all very different when it comes to the guitar solo\'s, the singing style and the lyrics, Cannibal Corpse is very brutal and "in your face" and have raw lyrics, while Cradle of Filth and Slayer have far more complex lyrics. ALthough they write about similar stuff. But Cannibal Corpse has never really been a very satistic band, they don\'t really write about devil worship. They write about mutilating women and intercourse with dead people.

BTW, Don\'t get me wrong. I\'m not saying that I don\'t like rock. I just heard a couple of Slipknot(?) songs and they were off the hizzle;) so I am going to get their CD but what is it that makes it so popular to the rest of you?

If its lyrics could you put some above average ones up and tell me what is good about them? If its the music tell me some songs to look ot for.

Also, I am a drummer so if the song has an incredible drumming selection or drummer thats a plus. Thats what got me interested in those Slipknot(?) songs. The drummer is sick.

Seriously, if you want to hear some really good heavy music (with great drumming), look no further than: http://www.cryptopsy.net/

These guys are totally amazing. It\'ll probably take a little getting used to for you but once you finally "get it" so to speak, you\'ll be hooked.
Er, excuse me, how much for one of those, uh, prophylactics?..........But I don\'t have a dollar and thirty-five cents!

Gohan, everyone is trying to start you off on Heavy Metal, Thrash, Death Metal, Black Metal, etc. etc....start yourself off with the good old stuff, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Doors, Electric Light Orchestra, The Eagles etc.   Then if you want to get into heavy metal, move further onto the likes of AC/DC, Black Sabbath etc.  THEN move on up into the 80\'s Rock n\' Roll movement of Guns n\' Roses, Bon Jovi, Metallica, MegaDeth, Slayer....Then move yourself up to modern music

good modern heavy (IMO)
 - Pantera
 - Rammstein
 - Marilyn Manson
 - Sepultura
  etc. etc.

And if you like Death Metal, dont listen to these softies like Cannibal Corpse or Deicide...Strapping Young Lad are the greatest Death Metal band ever...but they are not for the light hearted (im mainly putting this in for those who are into death such as nO-One  :)) their best songs are... S.Y.L. / Home Nucleonics / Underneathe The Waves / AAA / Skin Me...and the list goes on  :)

and remember, the 90\'s and new stuff also have a lot of good alternative, softer bands, Pearl Jam, Nirvana etc. etc.

Note, there are many more bands i like throughout the years...these are just some of the better ones
