I wanna get something straight...

the reason i think pc gaming is more hardcore than consoles (not saying that they\'re better) is because the games can be altered / tweaked much more, especially online setup (soon consoles will get to do more of this too),making / using different game maps / character mods. i still don\'t see how console gaming is hardcore...either by the unit or games themselves. everybody gets the same standard game using the same standard console, where does this make it hardcore? how is it that Sega games are more hardcore than all the other PSX developers? sorry,i don\'t see your logic.

I think EThugg is Entitled to his own opinions as long as he doesnt offend anyone, and in this thread he has been VERY civil.
Let him think what he wants. He has valid arguements, they are just different from everyone elses. That happens. Without difference there is no innovation. Ethugg brings a different point of view, usually with good intent and not to just bash like others, which brings debate. Debate leads to change. Change is good.(usually.)

Don\'t worry, if things keep going like they are going for Sony.  The PS3 will be the last console like the Dreamcast.
Sony was great in the days of the PSX, but they have worn out their welcome and they are heading for a fall.  Sony has become non-innovative and way too overconfident if not outright arrogant.  I do think Sony has lost most of their edge and they will continue to do so over time.  Sony used to mean quality, not so anymore.  Now they are just a business which is greedy, money hungry, got more global domination plans than Microsoft and there is no control over them.  Is there even an Anti-trust law for companies in Japan?  I don\'t think so.

Ethugg, I bought a PS2 because
• I was extremely pleased and still am with my PS1.  I still buy games for it
  • DVD compability
  • Backward PS1 compability
  •
I didn\'t buy a DC because
• I had a bad experience with SegaCD and Saturn
  • I didn\'t see enough games I liked to warrant buying one
  •
All this talk of mainstream/hardcore is pointless and stupid.  People who buy their own systems (not Nintendo owners :D) spend their money based on experience and their best investment.

A company\'s goal is to produce a product that is valuable to the consumer and secure a target market.
If a company fails to do this, it is their fault alone (excluding litigation).  You can\'t blame other successfull companies, whether rival or not, for the failure of said company.  You cannot blame the consumer; if the product does not interest them they have not accomplished their mission to produce a valuable product to the consumer.

Fine Emperor, so you like MS right? I mean, they got were they are by \'...produce a product that is valuable to the consumer and secure a target market.\' So MS is a good company right? All the companies they killed were just casulties of not accomplishing that, right? Not according to many board members. Many board members say MS used unfair power/leverage to destroy compeditors. As far as I\'m concerned, Sony did the same thing (they did \'threaten\' fewer systems to stores that were advertising DC too much. Unfortunatly, Sony is a Japanese company, an everyone here ignores that they are every bit as corrupt as MS *ever* was.

*whew!* that was a mouthful. I\'m sure you disagree, so you have the floor.

Microsoft?  Hmm...can\'t say I approve of some of Bill Gates decisions as they were a bit on the shady side.  But I don\'t think he should be shot or anything.  If the court finds him guilty, and they have, they need to carry out the corrections, which they haven\'t.  That\'s all I\'ve got to say about them except that I\'m interested in the X-box.

Sony?  Lots of dirt being thrown about them doing this or doing that to prohibit sales of other competitor\'s merchandise.  Whether it\'s true is for a court to decide and since there is no case I don\'t worry about it.  That\'s all I\'ve got to say about them except I\'m pissed b/c my PS2 is broken.

Sega?  Stick with one thing and make it work.  Sega of Japan needs to realize there is a Western Hemisphere and they have customers there.  That\'s all I\'ve got to say about that except I might get a DC when the price drops.

And that\'s all I have to say about that.

Hey! S\'up Docwiz?
...

Ethugg,I think your completely wrong when you said Saturn was for the hardcore because it wasn\'t. With a 400$ price tag and very few good games, the Saturn just plain sucked( no pun intended). The people who bought it were the long time Sega fans who\'d buy anything Sega puts out. The hardcore gamers were smart enough to realize that it wasn\'t worth the money.

time to beat this dead horse some more,to me the topic of hardcore is something reserved for the truely devoted,so if a console is considered "hardcore",the person playing the console would have to devote most of thier time everyday to this thing. very rarely does this happen on a continual basis. some play alot of games and excell at them more than others, but how many play them everyday more than they work or over their normal recreation time. you\'d have to literally be a game tester or in some kind of video game league making a living from it to really be considered hardcore. it is still a mainstream device, the closests thing to calling a console hardcore is if ya got a import unit and had it modified to play another region. no one has proven to me that consoles are hardcore and i won\'t believe it until proven otherwise...die horse die!! :D

Well I\'m back... (yeah!)

and the only reason is because I am unbelievably bored right now.  Things actually look like they have shapened up.  ddaryl finally got through to Ethugg, other people have returned, and order is being brought back... maybe there is something worth staying here after all...
