oh boohoo, you are relying on hope here.  current third party practices stand that PS2 gets the most/best games (IMO  :D) and XBox will get them later.. casual gamers DONT WAIT for the version, they will get the version that comes out..

and besides.. casual gamers wont have more than one console..

PS2 does, and always will have too much going for it.. whether you think XBox has the advantage or not in this regards, is pointless.. who will they buy the games for?  PS2.. thats the console they will own  :)

I know if I had a choice between a PS2 game and an xbox version, I\'d chose the xbox version everytime.  It\'s just better (with very few exceptions).  Right now the PS2 has mindshare and many of the new games first, but the latter isn\'t going to last forever, we all know that.  What would happen then?

you dont know jack squat.. you know that if XBox continues to sell like complete CRAP, PS2 might actually INCREASE in this regard, you are relying completely on hope and no factual data Watchy.. if anything i\'d say my scenario is more likely..

but i dont know that for sure, we can only wait and see..

There are already rumblings that GTA4 will be released similtaneously on all platforms (or even that MS will buy the rights for it).  So someone looking for a new console, that are priced the same, is going to buy which system?  If the only difference is performance, why not go for the best looking/playing game?

rumblings my ass (no pun intended  :p)

get over it, they will go with what they hear is better.. not performancewise, but just the games, the name.. the satisfaction  :p  just like PSX last gen, PS2 this gen should continue to do well

this is already showing itself in that PS2 is outselling XBox at a VAST MAJORITY.. your hoping that PS2 sales slow WAY down and XBox sales pick way up??  and if this was the case that Sony\'s sales would slow to a hault?  please Watchdog, too much hope buddy..  just watch

So I don\'t think xbox will ever have a larger userbase, but that isn\'t really important.  It\'s the active userbase that is.  Of course things could keep going like they are and xbox will remain a distant second for the duration, but the possibility is there.

ok ok ok, the possibility may be there.. but c\'mon.. ugh

Either way, I have both consoles and it matters very little to me--although, I\'d like to hear from some of the people here if that ever comes to pass.

Truth be told, if I were to put my money on a company, I\'d go with Sony everytime.  I\'m merely pointing out that there is a possibility and that total userbase isn\'t the only important factor.

Dang, 3 whole years bobo and you\'re still saying the same crap. Your a 1st year uni student for gods sake! Say something "intellectual" or "yuppyish" ... like the connection between the PS2 and the jumbled thread of the human soul\'s complexity.

Hey I\'m not hoping anything beyond that the xbox does well enough to be profitable.  With the sales in the US that seems likely.  Beyond that I really don\'t care.

I\'m just adding a perspective that is often ignored in this forum.  I\'m only saying that what I said is possible.  Look at the 16-bit era and what happened to the Genesis and Sega.  Genesis had a huge userbase and was well ahead of SNES.  Genny was ahead for the vast majority, but in the 4rth year, it lagged behind and N was king again.

It happened once.  Tyson was knocked out by Buster Douglas.  The Pats won the Super Bowl. Etc.  Upsets happen and nothing is so predictable (bedsides PS2 fanboys on this forum :)) that there is no room for debate.

Who is anyone here to say that N won\'t mend ties with Square, Buy Rockstar games and release all thier franchise games this year?  Who\'s to say MS won\'t?  Or Sony?  Certainly any of this is possible.

I will say one thing IF the reports are true and MS is worried about consoles impinging on their PC profits then MS wants this very badly and they will reach into their pockets and spend whatever it takes to be successful--even if it\'s only in the States.  And if MS really wants to I can\'t see them failing.  This is all MS does and if PCs begin to lag where would that leave MS?  I don\'t think they\'d let this happen.

But like I said anything is possible.

well let me say this

you cant argue a point with possibilities

as you cant win with hypothesies and all without backing evidence and such

pretty voids anything you said

You don\'t have it exactly right.  Everything you argue is just a possibility, it\'s how it\'s presented and if there is a valid argument behind it that is key.

One could say: The sky could fall tommorrow.

Or one could say: The sky could fall tommorrow; there is an asteroid hurtling through space.

The only possibility I put forth is that MS could gain mindshare.  It\'s happened before in this industry.  There\'s nothing stopping it now.

I\'m talking crap because I\'m talking against the PS2.

Why is it so impossible to believe that in 2 years the xbox could out sell the PS2 on a month to month basis?

You honestly expect Sony to dominate the console industry forever, without ever missing a beat?  The PS2 isn\'t an infalable piece of hardware and it\'s two years older than xbox.

Look I\'m not saying it\'s going to happen, but the possibility is there.  Who though SNES was going to catch genesis?  Who thought Sony was going to overthrow Nintendo and Sega?  Who though MS could beat Sony?

The answer to all three is nobody (or very few).

It wouldn\'t take a whole heap of things to happen, just a lot money, and good business desicions and you\'ve got yourself a possibility, and not one that is completely ludicrous.

in two years its entirely possible for the xbox to catch up and surpass  the the PS2 ONLY ON A MONTH TO MONTH BASIS.

i wholeheartedly agree with you on that
but you must agree with me then that the xbox WILL NEVER MATCH THE PS2\'s installed user base, than and now

then roughly 3 years from now, the PS3 comes out
and the cycle starts over again.  sony WILL BE the dominating home console maker for the next few generation.  it would take m$ buying up EVERY major developer, and this is a tactic i dont put very far from them.  this is how they came to rule the PC market

considering my hatred for nintendo, i entirely hope m$ takes second place this round

finally watch, we\'re meeting on the same level
:)

mm, really, we never are that far apart.  We are just both stubborn and stick firmly to our fine points, no matter how close they actually are to each other.

mm, read above, read in previous threads, I\'m not nearly that dillusional to think that xbox can ever catch PS2.  It\'s the month to month that I think is a possibility.

I\'m not sure that MS will allow Sony a head start like they did this generation.  I expect that xbox2 and PS3 will go head to head and I expect xbox2 to lose that war too, but that\'s all speculative.

And I also agree that MS would have to dig deeply into their pockets--actually I\'m sure they will.  MS didn\'t get into this business for the love of games (neither did Sony), they came to make money and that\'s something MS is very good at.  So long as MS doesn\'t lose a boatload of money (and it doesn\'t look like they will), they\'ll be around for round 2.
