Zona Teams with Xbox.

Zona, Inc., the Massive Multi-Player Online Game (MMOG) server and network solution provider, today is announcing that the company has joined the Microsoft Corporation Xbox(TM) Tools & Middleware Program for MMOG middleware development. The Xbox Tools& Middleware License gives Zona, Inc. the right to develop an Xbox version of Terazona(TM), the highly scalable, secure, fault-tolerant, total server and network solution for Xbox online games. Terazona(TM) is capable of supporting tens of thousands of users on a server and drastically lessens the time-to-market for online game developers.

``Xbox is the only console that can bring online Massively multiplayer gaming to the living room,\'\' states Montgomery Singman, CEO of Zona, Inc. ``Currently, there are more publishers creating online games for Xbox than employees that originally engineered the console itself.\'\'

``Xbox is the only console with a built in hard drive and broadband capabilities making it the only serious console for online developers,\'\' said Drew Angeloff, Xbox Tools Program Manager. ``Terazona will give Xbox developers a technically sound head start when developing massively multiplayer online games.\'\'

Using the Zona, Inc. MMOG server and network solution Terazona(TM), video game developers will be able to focus on enhancing the game play experience and no longer be forced to spend time and money on network, server, infrastructure, and operational issues. Within one online game, Terazona, with its advanced distributed network architecture, can support 32,000 users vs. a maximum of 4,500 users on competing systems. Xbox will be the best console for online gaming this generation.. it\'s broadband only strategy guantees that. Well.. unless you\'re on 56k and have no other option for a faster connection. Then you\'re crap outta luck, and stuck playing offline unless you buy a PS2, NGC, or Dreamcast.

Anyhow, M$ can have Zora. I\'m keeping my eye on Explorati. They\'re working on a system of Massively Multiplayer gamers that anyone (developers and end users) can use to tweak and create their own online realms or expand on existing realms. From what Lori Cole was saying, they\'re going to start out primarily on PC, but would like to move to both the PS2 and Xbox seeing as how those two consoles have Harddrives available/planned. Lori and Corey are also seeking the rights to QFG so that they can make a QFG MMORPG as an offical project.. so you know I\'m gonna be there. There\'s no offical press releases from the company as of yet, (just what\'s been said in interviews), but we should hopefully hear more at this years E3. Sweeeeet.

Who the hell is Zona and why should I care?  Seriously they could have said Dave is working on some new MMOG middleware and I would have been just as underwhelmed.

This is all marketing BS and until I see a game that has 32k players online I\'ll continue to be unimpressed.

if even 20% of those owners buy the HDD addon, than its worth it
