there\'s what, almost 30 million ps2\'s around the world and STILL selling 3-1 over the xbox?
the "war" is over.
xbox cant dream of those numbers
the best it can hope for is second place, but i wouldnt count the GC out

The "war" is not over...if we mean War as Games vs Games...4 years is a long time...

if even 20% of those owners buy the HDD addon, than its worth it

I see you are optimist...I would be surprised if 3-5% of PS2 owners will buy add-ons...
Developers will never take full advantage of add-ons!

sega was the only company to try the addon trip on a major scale
sure turbografx16 and jaguar had thier cd addons

unless of course you count the SNES cd addon *snicker*

the war is indeed over before it started
xbox is two years too late to even think of coming close to ps2\'s user base

20% too high?  whats the HDD gonna cost?  100$?
thats chump change.  how hard will it be for developers to make use of the HD?  i dont see ANY xbox games taking true advantage of the HD.  sure you can rip yer own soundtrack for a FEW games, and it serves as a big memory card, and thats it.

the sony HD doesnt have to be a blazing success
look at the sony brand LCD for the ps1.  not exactly selling like hotcakes, but they will continue to produce them

the HD has to sell just enough to let a little more air out of the flailing m$ balloon

You are all calling on this way too quick...

I don\'t think any of us know enough of either MS or Sony\'s plans to say who wins the "on-line war"...

How much is the add-on?  How much will it cost to play per month/play?  How many games on-line?  What kind of games?  Do they appeal to a wide audience?

For how many people?  Will the casual gamer buy into it?

What makes the PS2 HD different from the Xbox HD?

Right now...have you heard of the DOA3 add-on?  How long do you think it will be before other developers start to take advantage of the feature?

That\'s different, it\'s a one time buy...Sony will have to have enough people buy the add-on, plus games, plus pay a monthly fee to keep it going...Remember, not everyone is clamering to get FFXI...

Xbox also has some bridges to cross...BB only is a big one.

Broadband Adapter is $39.99
The Harddrive price has not been announced yet.

Though I would expect Sony selling it with a loss.

You answered half of one of my questions...

my point was is that you can\'t possibly make a substantial guess as to what\'s going to happen given the little information we have...

what questions?

which console will win the online "war"?  it doesnt concern me, i wasnt even talking about that

the console "war" on the other hand, is over
sony won it before nintendo and m$ even left the gate

now the battle for 2nd place is being fought

but i have a few minutes to kill

the PS2 harddrive will be different because developers will see how xbox is wasting the capacity of thiers.  does ANY current xbox game copy data to the hard drive to address load times? no, why not?

cost per month?  no, most games will be peer ro peer, i dont pay to play tony hawk 3 online RIGHT NOW, do i?

will ps2 gamers get it?  yes, like i said 100$ [at the most] is chump change

who\'s to say it will stay that way?  Do you know that all the devleopers are just over looking it?  Do you honestly think all PS2 developers will utilize the HD to minimize loadtimes and what not?

How many are planned to do that for PS2 HD, if any?

Does this apply to all on-line games for the PS2?

What is there to warrant its\' purchase?  Enough to reach beyond a hardcore audience?

Like I said, we don\'t enough...

You make it sound like everyone will buy the HD because it\'s only $100.  Well extra controllers are only $20 and 10% of the market bought those for the PS1.  I fail to see how the HD will achieve a greater sell through.

How many copies did FF sell? 3-4 million?  Of that number how many are fanatical about FF and are willing to buy the adapter, the game, the HD and the online costs?  I\'d be surprised if it\'s half.

That\'s too much to buy for the majority of people; add that to the fact that most people don\'t like the idea of playing online and you\'ve got a niche market.

With the xbox all they have to do is have the game and pick "Play Online" from the menu and they are playing.  After the two free months of online play, they have a decision whether or not to subscribe.

You tell me which one Joe average is likely to do.  I\'m not sure if either console will enjoy a raging success from their online plans, but MS is in a far better position than Sony.

Sony also said that their INITIAL games will be free.  They could have said "We will not charge gamers to play online--not like other companies".  They didn\'t and that is curious.

communicate ideas. The second is to conceal ideas. The
third is to conceal the absence of ideas.

yeah, but when there\'s 100 PS2 owners to every 1 xbox owner, what are the odds then?

it all numbers

were comparing how many EVEN have a broadband connection

no broadband connection = no online xbox
