Madden online ps2, but what about xbox
« Reply #30 on: May 16, 2002, 07:35:34 PM »
Maybe Madden won\'t have a charge connected, but when EA figures they are losing money setting up the lobbies and etc., they will tack on an amount for all EA games, Sony already has a flat fee for first party stuff, Squares titles will be pay to play, with extra money for every character you use, etc.

100% of the online community does NOT play videogames at all. Of the percentage of people who play and buy videogames, another small percent will play them online. Of that percent, it is close to 50% of the online gamers use broadband exclusively to play. MS is hardly shutting out 80% of everyone that goes online. People who play online games use broadband. The number of bb users is HORRIBLY understated, btw. I am going to college next semester, they have T3s hooked up, along with nearly EVERY other college in America has. 18-25 year olds make a big chunk of gamers and I know many people who buy PS2 and XBox at my work are currently in college.

Your numbers are guesswork :)

Setting up lobbies?  Come on now.  Do you really think they\'ll charge a monthly fee to cover the lobby costs?  Do they charge a monthly fee for the EA web page?  Does games.yahoo charge a monthly fee for its millions of users?

They will be making more money with the sales of their games than they will be losing with their online lobbies.  There will also be a lot of EA games not online which will also help cover the costs.

Are you sure you\'ve got your facts straight?  Twisted Metal Black online will not have a monthly cost.  Socom will not have a monthly cost.  Both of them are first party PS2 games.  The only two games that will have a monthly cost is Everquest and FFXI -- both of which are MMORPGs.  And chances are most people won\'t be playing two MMORPGs at the same time, so we\'ll only have to worry about one of those costs.

you wanna talk guesswork?  hmmmph

broadband users are a small minority of online users

VERY small

you think those same college students wanna pay a monthly fee to play xbox online when they can play CS for free?

how many times to i have to say it before it sinks in
all non-MMORPG\'s PS2 online games will be free to play

you dont see any non-MMORPG\'s PC online games charging a monthly fee do you?  thats a business model that doesnt work, unless you give the users content, which MMORPG\'s do

That is correct.
Kaz-san (Kaz Hari of SCEA) has said that all Sony 1st party games will be free. (those being, Frequency, Socom US Navy Seals, Twisted Metal Black ect)

I figured the xbox fanboys would find a way to have this be good news, and be all EA\'s fault.. lol,
but unlike some times where they have some sorta ground to stand on with their argument, they don\'t this time.

This is bad news, deal with it, your the people who bought the xbox thinking it will be the online king.
While i\'m the person who knows what kinda company MS is, and did not buy the xbox thinking things like this would happen.

It feels so good to be right :D

Now lets see what the other companies choose.. only days till we know

I have both Madden 2002 and Fever 2002. I used to think that Fever was better but after playing Madden a bit more, I think it is not better ,just different. I like both games equally. To bad the new versions of each game couldn\'t be on line. I bet MS did this on purpose to try and sell more copies of Fever 2003.

Ehhh... do you people realize it\'s $13 a month to play Everquest... I\'ve got a job, I know the difference between quality and being overcharged...

Are you referring to the PC Everquest?  Because I don\'t think Sony has announced the pricing for the PS2 Everquest yet.  And did you realize that it is FREE to play Socom, TMB, Timsplitter 2 (this will most likely be online), Frequency (which comes free with the 56k/Broadband adapter), Tony Hawk 3/4, Tribes, etc...  Hey, not a bad deal! :)

I do see the benefits of both online plans, but at this point, Sony\'s is looking slightly better to me.  This could all change though if individual companies start charging for there online games (which would be the demise of PS2 online IMO).

if 13$ is too much, than why do they have 500,000 plus subscribers?

thats 6.5 million $ a month
all going into the pockets of a sony owned company

i\'m not saying it\'s tooo much, I\'m simply saying if people are willing to play $13 a month for one game, PS2 will have no problems finding subscribers.

If Sega announces Farnation at E3, paying for XBox Live will become more than worth it.
