"Furthermore taking apart a PS2 is not going to tell you how many polygons the machine is a capable of, and why would you do this ??? "

well...if you know so much about the ps2 and how it works then you would know that the emotion chip uses parallell ports to connect to the other parts of the system, right?, yes, have you ever heard of "Chipaway" (get it at tucows.com", it is a program that boots up in dos where you can hook up any compatibal chip to your pc (486\'s work best) and after you hook it up you can test the puppy, so me and a friend acompanied by our tech teacher at my school (westdale secondary) tested out all that chip had to offer and I must say this thing kicks ass, and is by far better then the 32 bit Nividia and PIII all together, and you may say this is not true but look at the macintosh chipsets, at the same Meggahertz as the Intel PIII\'s the macintosh chips blow the PIII\'s away, this is because they are same frequency but more speed and power, and the emotion works the same, it may have a less frequency then the PIII but is by far faster and more powerfull.

@ires

its a 32bit system but Nvidia\'s chipset is doing all the graphic workload, the SP2 does a solid portion of its graphical workload in the EE particualarly Vector Unit 0 this sucks down the PS2\'s power, and to date the PS2 hasn\'t had alot of sucess doing FSAA, where GC and Xbox both will do it without a performance hit, also both XBox and GC support multi layer tecxturing, furthermore Xbox has more memory than all the systems, and even though the PIII is 32 bit the Nvidia chipset is 128 bit, and has access to all 64mb of memory as does the PIII. The Xbox also has a harddrive built in which allows for faster data streaming and equal amount of Bus bandwidth as the PS2

Also I am very aware of MHz comparisons and know for a fact the EE is more than 2x\'s more powerful then a PIII 700Mhz processor, but the Nvidia GPU is a beast comapred to the PS2\' GS. Xbox\'s and GC graphics chips do a ton and free up their processors to do other stuff where as the PS2\'s EE has to help the GS

For the record I know some stuff too.

I agree with you the PS2 is a monster but so is GC and Xbox and they are better machine graphically, but the PS2 still has its Vector units in the EE which will help the PS2 create some great gameplay elements and other cool eefects and gameplay element like procedural animation and texturing which won\'t be done easily on the XBox or GC and is the true innovation SOny was talking about not polygons and FSAA. Graphics are not the onlyu innovative feature in a next gen console and SOny\'s PS2 is poised to bring out and show off its own creative strengths.

Understans @ires, I\'m probably the biggest PS2 fan around but I also realize that SOny\'s PS2 isn\'t the perfect machine it has alot of power but its not the end all machine either and will have some formidable competition

Sony\'s intentions were to have the developers stream textures. Not store them and FSAA them in memory. They aren\'t doing that as of now.

They have Zelda, Final Fantasy X and XI, and MGS2:Sol.

As soon as I read this I knew you didn\'t have a clue. The FFs are not confirmed in any sense for XBox, and neither is MGS2. Zelda is just laughable. Nitnendo owns the Zelda liscece and they have very thourough copy rights protection on all of their property. If a Zelda game was going to come out on XBox Nitnedo woud either have to make it or give them the rights to make it. Nitnendo does not develop for consoles other than their own, they know the people who buy their consoles buy them for their franchises, therefore their franchises will sell best on their consoles, as well as the fact that they donb\'t have to pay anybody else for liscencing thier console. Nitnendo never has and never will develop for any other console, if worste cam e to worste they would go handheld only before they would make for XBox. The otehr option of giving out the liscence is also ridiculas. Nitnendo is very protective and they stand to gain nothing from giving away Zelda.

I\'m not going to take a part in any vocabular "fight" here ;)

Well, I just say that if I\'m going to get another console, then it just might be X-box. You\'re asking me why?

I\'ll tell you why.

First of all, there\'s lots of PS2 exclusive games coming out such as the Bouncer and FFX, don\'t forget about Wipeout Fusion ( I won\'t mention MGS2 here, because Ddaryl was completely right when he said that it could be ported to X-box ); and those are alone worth buying PS2.

But then comes X-box, and it has about 150 3rd party developers ( I\'m not sure. Just according to what I read here ), and the number is growing. X-box is a graphical monster, but I wouldn\'t compare PS2 and x-box face to face because they\'re still so different. Well; GC isn\'t out of option, but I\'m afraid the console will be another Nintendo-Rare -fest with too lousy 3rd party support to make a success.

PS2 and X-box.. a gaming nirvana eh?

The N64 isn\'t going to be a no third party system. As it stands we allready have confirmations from quite a few major third party developers and strong rumors from others. The console has lisncencing fees equal to Sony, lowerdevelopment costs and a cost effective storage media, basicly all the main reasons the N64 wasn\'t a major third party platform are gone. I\'m not saying the Gamecube is going to steal all of Sony\'s thirs party support, but I expect most major third party franchises that were previously considered Sony exlusive to be ported to Gamecube, as well as there being the third party support the N64 had continuing to support Nintendo. If you absolutly have to hae hundereds of crappy games tehat your never going to play available for your system then the Gamecube won\'t be for you, but if its only the major franchises and third parties your after it might not be a bad choice, although I doubt it will be a great RPG machine.

well if i had to cose either GC or X-Box id go with..........................................X-BOX!I wouldnt want to play some pokemon S*%T!

*sigh* These poor mislead children get more pitiful by the day.  My big grub with misinformed jackasses like this one is the fact that they have the ability to speak and procreate.

Now, you moron, before you go around associating Nintendo GameCube with Pokemon and other "stupid kiddy crap that I put down and call childish because it threatens my security that I\'m someone cool and accepted by society, no matter how completely mindless and idiotic I sound", maybe you should do a little research.  If I haven\'t yet lost your tiny attention span, sent out by an obviously tiny mindset, you may want to direct yourself to http://cube.ign.com/.  Now, if you\'ll look at the news, and search all about the archived news, I think you\'ll find that *gasp* a Pokemon game for GameCube hasn\'t been announced!  Hell, a Pokemon game hasn\'t even been RUMORED for that matter!  Oh, yes, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Star Wars, Thornado, Too Human, Perfect Dark 2, Resident Evil 0, SSX, and Madden have all been confirmed, but *GASP* not yet Pokemon!  Might I add that if you think about it, all of the NGC confirmed games I\'ve listed could actually be considered *mature*! (yes, even Mario, who has been repeated said to be given a more mature game).  Ah, the word *mature*.  It\'s what pea-sized-brain schmucks are attracted to, because you like to think yourself as "mature" and "cool".  But, in reality, most intelligent and free-thinking can actually see what a brain dead, incompetant fool your really are.

I truly pity the person you are, and the fact that you\'ll probably someday be getting a prostitute/really REALLY drunk girl pregnant and passing on your ignorant genes is just plain depressing.  Oh well, I guess ignorance can\'t be escaped..

welcome to the forums game lover :)

But hey; does it mean that if console has over 200 3rd party developers that all the games are going to be crappy? :)

"...but if you want crappy games Gamecube isn\'t for you..."

Let me say that it\'s about opinion. If you think games on PS2 are crap; then be my quest. I won\'t argue. Can you really say that GC won\'t have any crappy games?

That wasn\'t a flame BTW. No console is Perfect. But personally I don\'t like this console-debating forum. Still eventually you\'ll have to decide wich system you buy. No-one can help you in that decision, because you have your personal taste and opinions.

Base the decision on to them.

Mark my words... :)
