TShirts:With that aside, I believe we are dealing with an even bigger issue at hand, and that is VGs pro-Sony attitude. It is no secret really. I still believe if VG is without a doubt unquestionable unbiased, then there shouldn\'t be a legion(almost all) of Sega fans whom I spoke to(around the web in various forums and sites) still questioning their integrity. It is one thing to be a harsh critic, but quite another to be biased altogether. Sega fans are feeling like they are getting the shaft, and that is the point I am trying to make here.
Every person has their own personal preference for games. Even reviewers prefer certain games over others from time to time. I myself have consistantly asked not to review racing games and FPS games for console for if I did, I would obliterate them without giving thema chance in hell of achieving high scrores. Sometimes however, with a big enough title, I must review it to present a varying opinion on the subject so the high praise is earned in that category.
However, the one thing I am compelled to point out in the Gamespot reviews is that of the "reviewer\'s tilt," which of course refers to the reviewers bias towards a specific genre or title. If it is 10, then this reviewer has been totally hyped up towards a specific title, but if it\'s a 5 or something, then their interest is very low for it. This pretty much excuses any type of bias remarks from anyone on their reviews, but don\'t think that they were hired for their biased intentions. I am inclined to up-play MGS2 as much as anyone else on this board and down-playing it would be a very difficult task to fulfill, but I\'m sure you can understand that especially for such a mammoth title.
Additionally, on the note of Sega fans especially, I honestly don\'t think that\'s a valid point. As was said before, one man\'s crap is another man\'s treasure. Perhaps it\'s just Sega games that they utterly despise, but who knows? There are plenty of times videogames.com and myself refuse to agree on review scores, but it is their opinion, it is their site, and they are the ones getting paid for it. Who am I, a loley wannabe writer, to disagree with them and tell them how to do their job? I can ***** and moan all I want, but I don\'t expect them to change simply because I disagree with their opinion.
Not too long ago, VG themselves admitted to "being at fault" for not playing Shenmue "all the way through", so they re-reviewed the game and gave it a higher score; and the only reason why they did that was because so many fans wrote in and complain about their inaccurate review. I wonder how many other low profile games have not gotten the review they so deserve. What can I say? Is it wrong of me to question their integrity when it is a known fact that they have shafted Sega fans in the past?
No arguement here, but you keep referring to Shenmue as your biggest point, are there any other Sega games that got shafted as apparently as Shenmue has? At least they publicly admitted their faults and they redid the review. I, however, don\'t feel that is the case with just about any other review. The only one that I know of that had a huge stink made over was Shenmue. Any others is just speculation, but I don\'t feel that the entire site, and every individualistic opinion should be put into question, especially those siding with specific Sony titles. If you question gamespot integrity, then feel free to question their short and poor review style rather then their opinions because that my friend, is pointless on so many levels.
Gee thanx! When did I alleged anyone of biasness in here?
Here\'s the reference provided by you:
Maybe you are not seeing what the Sega fans, and the unbiased gamers have been seeing all along. Think about it guys.
We\'re not seeing what the unbiased gamers see? If those Sega fans are unbiased, then what are we? If we\'re not the unbiased gamers, then we must be the opposite and that sure as hell sounds like what you were saying there.
Ok, maybe you should tell that to the various magazines and websites who post articles of "the best 100 games of all time". They, just like I, are comparing the dissimilar games to one another. I mean, I don\'t think it is that hard to equate the stature of a Mortal Kombat and a Zelda and come out with the conclusion that Zelda is a more high grade product than the latter.
All because Twisted Metal: Black got a 9+ score doesn\'t mean it puts it into the top 100 all-time greatest titles. Maybe for this year or the next, but definitely not for all time. I can easily think of much better games that got even LOWER scores from gamespot in that respect, but as I said, there are PLENTY of games I\'d much rather play then TM:B, but that\'s not to say that TM:B isn\'t awesome in its own right. Besides that, even a top 100 poll is still biased by the opinion of the reader. I think Chrono Trigger was and is the greatest game of all time, but that doesn\'t mean it\'ll see #1 on the top 100. Think about that for a bit, please.
