Since it\'s such a popular and anticipated title, (and considering that there have been three Final Fantasy titles on the top 10 list for almost a year now), here\'s a word of warning: The Final Fantasy IV CD doesn\'t work. Well, it may or may not work for you, depending on your PlayStation, the phase of the moon, recent solar flare activity, and the beating of a butterfly\'s wings in a South American rainforest. RPGamer.com is reporting that EA has verified that there is a universal problem, so if you\'ve got a copy, it\'s probably just best to wait until a new batch has been delivered to your local retailer before exchanging it.

According to several e-mails I\'ve received, the main problem is that the Final Fantasy IV disc of FFC won\'t work in a PSOne. Sony blames EA, EA blames Sony, and so on. Of course, both of my personal copies have failed to boot in a PSOne, PSX, and a PS2, so I vote that it\'s EA\'s fault. Mind you, with the holiday week here in the US, it\'s doubtful that there will be any final news about it until next week.

Please ignore the fact that im a Square fan for just this post. none of hte original games work. None. In my 18 odd years I\'ve never heard of such a thing. Some fualty systems, maybe a bad bach of games. But never none. I do consider this one of the biggest problem yet.

Maybe its the addation of the PSOne,  they made like 7 differnet ones all with better cool down features.  Luckly I have like the 7th version and if that fails me theres always PS2

Well mine works, I got it near Atlanta, GA.  So there should be no worries if you buy it there.

It\'s not all the copies, just a large bad batch.  (Some idiot probably spilled coffee on one of the machines and didn\'t tell anyone.)

I don\'t understand how such a problem could go unfixed before the release.

They probably checked the same batch I got, one that works.

It costs too much to check EVERY one.  It\'s like the problems with car tires.

Yeah, but they may not have tested the production CD.  The final copy on a retail machine.  Which is bad oversight.

Would there ever be a situation in which it would be a good oversight?

Plus, since not all of them are defective, that\'s probably not the case.  I\'m sticking to my "idiot spilled coffee" theory for now.

I agree.. bout the only thing it can be is bad Quality Assurance at the production phase. Maybe some of the code got corrupted while the CD\'s were being pressed? The bad batches probably just weren\'t checked, which as said before would cost too much. The most stringent QA I\'ve ever had to preform was tests on 1 out of 10 parts at National Tube Form as per QS9000 standards. The USDA isn\'t even as thurough with the products they check, so it\'s no surprise that EA\'s production could have similar problems.

I bought a copy just last week and I have not had any problems with mine. How is it possible for only some to be defective and others to be fine?
