I understand your feelings completely, ddaryl. I am sorry for your loss, but I have experienced the same... about year and a month ago.
We had this lovely chihuahua ( I have posted a pic of him here, but it\'s ages ago and perhaps you don\'t remember ), named Leevi. You know, chihuahua\'s usually live over 10 years. He was my best friend, and I loved him a lot - he was a family member, and as valued as others.
He ran away two times, because he was a wild spirit, and just wanted to sniff around the world. But both times it was me who found it from the "big city" surrounding us - why I said \'big city\' is that it was big for our dog.
But then, last spring my dog ran away, it was the second time. He was lost for about half an hour, and we were in panic. There is so many ways a small dog can be lost in a city, and killed under a car. But no, he didn\'t die, and I found him. Lucky me. If I just had known he only had about month to live...
Month later my dog got strange. He just stood in corners and shook. So we took him to the vet, and the vet said there was some problems with his anal and his stomach was flushed. Afterwards he seemed ok, and the vet said he should just rest and lay down. Well, we went to bed too, it was late night, with Leevi\'s little bed next to us. But when we woke up, a shock awaited us. Our dogs back-legs were paralyzed. He couldn\'t move them, he had to move with his two front-feet, and it was painful to watch. We cried and cried, and then called my grand-dad for advice - his dogs had had the same operations done to them as well. He replied that the dog can\'t walk for few days after the operation - but he didn\'t know the real state of our dog. So the next day we took him to the vet. The vet couldn\'t know what to do with him - she just said the situation was quite hopeless.
But then we heard about this miracle-vet, who had healed cats and dogs near death. We took him there. He x-rayed him, and found no problems - just gave him some medicine and said everything would be okay. In two days he\'d be fine. But no. Then we found this vet who places animal\'s disjointed bones back to their places. We took Leevi to him, and he found out it was one of his back-bones wich had been disjointed, and the bone was pressing a nerve, \'thus making the legs paralyzed. So, he fixed the problem and gave our dog two days time to heal. If he wouldn\'t heal, there was nothing to do. So, the friday of the week, we took our beloved dog, 2 years old, to a vet to put him out.
The saddest day of my life. A dog wich should\'ve lived for 15 years died at the age of 2. I was so jealous to my friends whose dog lived, and I constantly thought why our dog had to die so young...
We will never take a chihuahua anymore. Later on a vet said that our dog had had extra-weak back-bones. A natural problem. Did he fell from a sofa during the night? Or was it a natural event? We may never know.
R.I.P. Leevi. We will meet again...
