small PS2 problem
« on: August 07, 2001, 05:58:32 AM »
I have owned a PS2 since it was released in the U.S. and I have had no problems with it until now.  I checked out a website that had a drawing of the inside of the PS2 that showed how you could change the stuff inside so it will play copies of games.  I wasn\'t sure which angle the drawing was at, so I guessed and soddered some of those little metal lines together.  Now my PS2 only plays Playstation1 games, (This is OK, I like alot of PSX games and the texture smoothing makes them even better on the PS2)

The problem is that everytime I play a PSX game the PS2 make a loud chirping "Whhuufy" sound and it smokes out of the back.  I always turn the volume up when I play, so that takes care of the sound problem, but do you think the smoke might be bad for me? Should I seal off all the vents on the PS2 so it won\'t smoke as much?

I\'m pretty good at doing things myself, but I could use some suggestions.

Thanks.

first off, i dont think this thread will be tolerated byt the mods, because it is concerning piracy, and it most likely will be deleted.

just remember, go to ign and post this, and smoke coming out of an electrical unit is not a good thing, so either you just ruined a $300 peice of equipment, or there is a dead mouse smoking inside of the system.:D:D
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.

I do\'nt think there\'s a mouse in there.  I do have a rodent problem in my trailer but I don\'t think they would want to crawl inside of a PS2.  I will have to cut the duct tape and take another look inside.

Thanks for your help.

any other suggestions would be helpfull

Apparently not.

First off those metal lines are called traces. Secondly, why in the world would you tape off the air vents.

You should do yourself a favor and NEVER touch electronics again.

If possible, undo what you did. But my guess is that you did permanent damage to one (several) IC\'s.

Would you like some butter to go with that toast!!

um the mouse thing is called a "joke" and why do you want to m o d your ps2? if you are that cheap of a person, why even buy a system, save up for a car. sony would laugh at you if you brought it in for fixing.  plus its roughly 120$ to fix the system, so no luck there, save for a car and dont pirate games.

I will have you know that I currently work at the Xbox assembly workshop and I am confident in my abilities.
Every unit that ships out of my workshop is personaly checked by someone working at the Microsoft Accounting Office.
There has only been one truckload that had a problem, ( The controller ports were upside-Down.) But we put a vinyl sticker with the picture of the top of the Xbox on the bottom and you can hardly tell it\'s upside-down.

My supervisor said that this has happened plenty of times & that this was why Nintendo decided to go with the "Cube" format (Any side can be up.)

So don\'t tell me that I don\'t know what I\'m doing!

Oh that\'s an easy fix.  You just need to re-polarize your motherboard with a magnet and use a gameshark and you should be fine.  After that you can play Dreamcast games with it.

E-mail me and I\'ll tell you how to play N64 games on it too.
