classic amerikan censored games
« on: August 21, 2001, 07:31:36 PM »
...after reading the dissapointing news of MGS2\'s violence being toned down the amerikan audience....i started thinking of the many games in the past that were toned down or slightly changed when they were released in the states...

minor things such as in Super Castlevania..where the title screen had blood dripping from the main title screen in the jap version but was removed in the U.S. release...

in Final Fight,  after you beat up the car in the bonus round...the owner of the car would come and say \'Oh My God\'..but in the amerikan version,  the voice was altered to say \'Oh My Car\'..cause of religious issues....pathetic...and some of the chicks showed cleavage in the jap version but were covered up more for the U.S. release....

heres a time killer...can anyone come up with the rest of the dissapointing list of games that were changed due to violence,  gore or sex?

Man,  here in Germany games get censored all the time. Blood is turned off or coloured green, human enemies are replaced by robots, or the games are only available in little game stores when you ask the clerk.
The list of games would be too long...
On the other hand it`s not difficult to get import versions.

Not exactly a classic game (in the scenes of pre-32/64 bit era, but...)
Resident Evil had its intro censored (severed hand, dog head being blown off, half eatened face in Japanese version, while US version, right when these about to show it, it cuts to the next scene), when you come apon the body of the black Star\'s member (name escapes me right now) the Japanese version had his head roll into view before the zombie turns his head and looks at you. In the American version, all it shows is blood, then the zombie looks at you. For whatever reason, the PSX version only suffered this censorship. The PC version, didn\'t have them.

Soul Blade (or Soul Blade 2, one of these games), the intro had a half naked woman rise from the water. In the American version, the woman is more covered up.

UnJammyLammy had the main charecter slip on a bannana peel, die, and go to hell and had to sing her way out of hell. In the US version, she slipped, didn\'t die, and went to an island where she had to sing her way back home.

Resident Evil 2. Head falls from ceiling when you first encounter the lurker, which wasn\'t in the US version. Though from what I hear, it might not be in the Japanese version either so...

And more recently...
Giants for the PC. One charecter you could play, completely naked with a seethough veil as a skirt. US version, more covered up.

Twisted Metal: Black. Yes, even this game that pushes the envelope of violence in games may in fact be censored. Remember Darkside and how her "boss" was the one abusing her and gave her the mask? Originally, from what I have heard, her boss used to be her "father". And it was more then putting on her mask that he did to her. But, we can\'t have that, now, can we? Now, is other things censored from the game, I\'m not sure. Sony or Incog Inc. really hasn\'t said if anything else was censored. Still, very disturbing game even with the censor.
Opinions are not important.

I think in Soul Calibur, or something, Sophitia was skinny-dipping in the Jap version, but than had clothes on in the US version. And obviously Onimusha was censored... I don\'t get it. If the US version of MGS2 is asking questions to determine the level of gore...I will try to answer them as if I\'m demented so it won\'t censor anything...*sighs*

LIC, you are correct.  Not that I like beating up women, but, it was a little dissappointing to fire up what was one of my favorite games, at the time, and see it ruined in several ways.  Was bad enough they didn\'t include Guy in the first one.

I remember how pissed off I was when I picked up Mortal Kombat for the SNES, no Blood, but sweat?  I had a Genesis, but I figured the SNES version would look slightly better.

I picked up Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare(PS1), and Soldier Of Fortune for my Dreamcast.  I must admit SOF is preety gory.  AITD is creepy and I\'m loving every minute of it!  Will the PS2 version be completely different?  I couldn\'t wait.:D

D2 for Dreamcast.

the Japanese version showed a woman that had a tentacle shoot out of her private bits. It also in one part had a tentacle raping a woman, making it give it a bj.

Interesting stuff if you ask me :)

Its totally redicilous. Why why why censor game in the US but not in Japan???
I daresay us American are probably more used to cursing, violence, gore, and sex than most of the other countries in the world, so why the need for censorship?

they censore because of *****y parents n politicians that blame everything on them.

I\'m a canadian but we get mostly the same products so I have to live with all that censoreship **** from ur country.

The ass scene in mgs1 was sorta weird cuz the guy was wearing boxers when I played integral.  heard that it becomes uncensored if u zoom in with the scope but I never tried it.

what pissed me off the most was redc n redc:dual shock.  cuz it was advertised uncut uncensored right on the box.  n capcom censored it 2 times.

Just to play the flip side of the coin, Sword of the Beserk: Gut\'s Rage on the Dreamcast had more blood and guts in the American version than in the Japanese version. They claimed it was 40% more blood and guts, but how reliable is a figure like that when we\'re talking about something like this? But the fact remains that there was a measureable increase in the red stuff for us Northern Americans.
