You guys are wrong, may I point out, it is indeed shipped.

Sony rarely, if ever, states a sale through number, as a shipped number sounds more impressive.

Good only SOny.

Sony has been paid for those systems, so regardless of whether of not they have been sold to a consumer, they are sold from Sony\'s point of view. I imagine that anywhere from 15-16 million of those units have been sold to consumers already anyway. The 17 million number(shipped/sold whatever) was as of August 1st.

I always thought japan was bigger on games, and the ps2 was out in japan for months before america.

Yeah, but it\'s on track to get 70 million without any competition.  As soon as xbox and GC are released those numbers will slow.

My point was that people are short sighted.  One year of sales isn\'t that much.  It\'s what happens after that matters.  The PS2 is looking good right now because it had no competition.  Another thing, why do you think Sony released those numbers now?  It\'s no coincidence that the GC and xbox are being released very shortly.  Also, these number aren\'t reliable.  In the 16bit era, Sega and Nintendo exaggerated all the time about their numbers.

The PS2 has undoubtedly sold millions of consoles, but I think 18 million is a little optimistic.

All we can say for sure is that the PS2 isn\'t going anywhere anytime soon.

Also, the point about it taking the PSX 1 year to sell 1 million means nothing because it is a vastly larger market now than it was 6 years ago.

Even if the numbers are exaggerated and i seriously doubt they are too much if at all because what the big difference betwn a couple million when you are talking about 15-17

just kidding - well kinda just kidding

but anyway its impressive numbers and thats what makes it hard to believe

I got a question about the data. Why don\'t they count the sale from some eastern places like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippine, etc? There are millions of people in those countries and if we include those countries as well, wouldn\'t the sale number reaches 20 mill? A lot of my friends who are living in those countries have got a PS2 too.

No clue on why. Maybe they are just not a big market for PS2s (if they do effect the numbers, they might add another half a million, instead of a million).

But, I seriously don\'t know.

Anyways, shipped or sold, these are still good numbers. Now, if they are shipped. not a s good as sold, but even then, I\'m expecting, 15 or so million sold through since I doubt there are 3 million-7 million sitting in store selves and warehouses (though, they probably are stacking up for the holidays though [which, unless things improve, its not going to be a very happy one for any company]).
Opinions are not important.

These numbers ARE the number of consoles SOLD..

Sony is making 2million consoles/month so the number of shipped units would and is much higher..

hahahaha. how about a real link? You know, an established videogame magazine or site? Not this Swedish BS. it shouldn\'t be too hard.

It\'s no mystery that a Swedish journalist could mistranslate something from an AMERICAN site.
