They don\'t know video games all that well.
This could go both ways. Sure, they
might not know anything about video games, but for all we know the person writing this could be a Sony fanboy, or they could be a completely
unbiased gamer. But lets say that they don\'t know anything about video games. If this was the case, then their opinion represents the casual gamer\'s opinion (AKA, most of the gaming-world\'s opinion) very well. They base their opinion of gaming systems by the games that they see and play. That is why this article means so much, and why it could be disastrous for Microsoft.

They are basically going by the fact that Sony has the biggest installed user base. I bet that is what they are going by.
I guess you forgot to read the article. Here are some key points:
The result: a game console that’s expensive to manufacture, a bulky, awkward controller that few seem to like and an underwhelming lineup of launch games.
Microsoft’s football game NFL Fever looks sharp and plays dull. And here’s proof that on Xbox, as with every system before, the reality never lives up to the rhetoric: all the games exhibit jagged lines and slowdown—despite the Xboys’ statements that such problems would be relics of the past.
The biggest thing: they were not impressed with the games on the Xbox. They were not impressed that the system that Microsoft claimed was 3 times as powerful as the PS2 only looked slightly better than what we\'ve seen on the PS2. What makes you think that they are basing their opinion on Sony\'s userbase?
Newsweek sounds pretty fanboyish if you ask me.
If they don\'t like what they see on the Xbox of course they are fanboys. There\'s no other logical explanation.
