Exactly.  I\'ve yet to hear these PS2 groupies address this question without saying, "What\'s coming out for Xbox after May?"  That\'s irrellevant because even if Xbox titles are not that top tier (I can name a dozen that are, but for the sake of subjectiveness, I\'ll refrain) it still puts Xbox and PS2 on equal ground software-wise.  In that case, better hardware should be the deciding factor.  With that said, I don\'t see any PS2 games next year that can compete with PS2\'s fall 2001 lineup.  After that, it\'s all subjective.  Of course, there\'s always the inevitable Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy updates (yawn!), but I\'m talking about stuff that can compete with the likes of touted killer-apps such as Project Ego, Shenmue II, Bruce Lee: Quest for the Dragon, Panzer Dragoon and Brute Force.  Even if some of you say that these titles aren\'t all that great or that I\'m being WAY too optimistic, can you name a PS2 game coming out next year that is equal or better than the ones I listed for Xbox?  If they\'re just equal, then I\'m sorry, Xbox wins because better hardware then becomes the deciding factor.  If you think PS2 looks bad this year, wait until next year when Xbox and GCN games start pulling away.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.

Project Ego: No one\'s ever played this game. Not a killer ap, it could be terrible.

Shenmue II: The only title on the list worth arguing about, but it did absolutely nothing for the DC.

Bruce Lee: Quest for the Dragon: I\'m going to go out on a limb here and say this game will be complete ass.  I\'ve played dozens of Bruce Lee games and all of them sucked.

Panzer Dragoon: A solid game, but did nothing for DC.

Brute Force: It sure is pretty.  Nothing is known about gameplay yet.  Again, you can\'t make any claim of granduer based in this game.

I could say the same about any PS2 game coming out, however you\'d quickly point out to me the developer track record.  If I said DMC will suck, you would have laughed at me because Shinji Mikami is a great developer.  Ego has Peter Molyneux behind it so it has as much a chance of sucking as the next Mario or Gran Turismo game.

Shenmue II: The only title on the list worth arguing about, but it did absolutely nothing for the DC.

I believe the converse of your statement is true instead; the Dreamcast did nothing for Shenmue.  On the otherhand, the power of Xbox and the marketing of Microsoft could give some exposure to an already great game.  With those two  things behind it, Shenmue and Xbox could share a symbiotic relationship just like Final Fantasy and the Playstation brand.

Bruce Lee: Quest for the Dragon: I\'m going to go out on a limb here and say this game will be complete ass.  I\'ve played dozens of Bruce Lee games and all of them sucked.

Faulty reasoning.

Panzer Dragoon: A solid game, but did nothing for DC.

I hear you.   But it\'s pretty hard for PD to make an impact on the DC when it wasn\'t even released for it.  But I agree with you, if PD isn\'t released for Xbox, it won\'t make very much of an impact. ;)

Once again, I can say the same thing about upcoming PS2 games.

So, you interpreted me as saying that the PS2 won\'t have any games coming out next year?  That\'s funny since I probably know the PS2 release list better than you do.   I was saying how that when it comes to quality games next year,  PS2 and Xbox will be on equal ground.

nah, i wont ban the kid.  hes harmless

he likes to project his "console insecurities" on others

ill keep him around so we have entertainment.  someone to ridicule and be thankful that we\'re no xbox sheep like him

people like him, and trintius and so many others hate us and this forum, because we\'re a "multi-console" environment.  they get angry because this isnt like the IGN.com forums where they can just say " PS2 SUXORS!" and get "F*** YOU" responses.

they fail to realize that since im an admin, that doesnt mean that i have to not like every console but ps2,

hes been sippin on the gater-hate

This guy makes alot more sense then you guys give him credit for.

I asked a simple question: What games are coming out for PS2 after May? I get no replies, meaning nobody knows. it is the same for XBox, you guys can\'t say \'there is nothing coming out for XBox" and turn around and say "PS2 has a great future" wtihout giving some games.

Give him some credit, If he keeps making sense like this, I may actually get to enjoy his posts, rather than loathe them.

While I don\'t know this Peter guy, I do know that the game is developed by the same guys that gave us that "brilliant" and "masterpeace" black & white, right? A game that was hyped bad, should have been revolutionary but failed to deliever. I am not saying though that it was a bad game though, it just didn\'t live up to what they initially promised us.

Faulty reasoning.

Actually, I am in with Watchdog. Might be a bad reason to prejudge a game, but I can hardly show much anticipation for a Bruce Lee game. Sorry, but it just doesn\'t get me excited.

Actually, equal games is not neceserally better for Xbox. The people who own a PS2 won\'t need to buy a Xbox just for the *slightly* better graphics. You can point me out how much better Xbox\'s hardware is, but if it only looks *slightly* better makes your point absolutely irrelevant. Anyway, that\'s pure speculation, we\'ll see when we get there. And pleaaaase! what\'s more important to you, the exclusives or the hardware?

As for Altered\'s question what games are coming to PS2 after May 2002, here\'s the answer:

1. The Getaway (2002 -> should be a blast)
2. Tomb Raider Next Generation (Tomb Raider :))
3. Test Drive (will be on Xbox too)
4. Stuntman (look at those graphics)
5. Need for Speed: HP2 (Should be good fun aswell)
6. TimeSplitters 2 (should be great, considering part 1 was awesome)
7. Tribes: Aerial Assault
8. Collin McRae Rally 3 (should be great aswell thanks to Codemasters, to bad it\'s a Ford :()
9. Tekken 4 (should be a blast for the Tekken fans)
10. Wipeout Fusion (it\'s out here in Europe soon, but I guess it will be mid 2002 for US)
11. Soul Calibur 2
12. Dino Crisis 3
13. Outcast 2 (look at the graphics)
14. Primal (Europe release will be first, so I guess later in the US)

Does that answer your question? I am very aware that a few of those are also coming to Xbox, but again, *slightly* better graphics won\'t be an issue for me. I can also see at least 5 exclusives, 4 of them that will be worth every cent (Wipeout, The Getaway, TS2, Primal, Tekken 4).

I can list a few gems for both the PS2 and the X-Box.  We seem to be debating the PS2\'s future though so I\'ll name them first:

Final Fantasy XI
Max Payne (Also on X-Box and PC)
Medal of Honor Frontline
Run Like Hell
Twisted Metal Online
Dead to Rights (I think the X-box will get this first)
Kingdom Hearts
Air Blade
Ninja Gaiden (We haven\'t heard much about this, but it\'s on schedule for release on the PS2)
Rayman M (X-Box as well)
Soul Calibur 2 (What system isn\'t getting this game?)
State of Emergency
Stuntman
Syphon Filter
Tekken 4
Tenchu 3
Virtua Fighter 4
The Getaway
Wipeout Fusion

Please note, I skipped quite a few because I\'m not into FPS games on consoles, but Halo and Max Payne are brgining me around... And I like Medal of Honor. :)

X-Box

Max Payne (Also on PS2 and PC)
Medal of Honor Allied Assault
Gun Valkyrie
Jet Grind Radio Future
Ghost Recon (PC as well)
Panzer Dragoon
Project Ego
Strident
Yager
Shenmue 2
Dino Crisis 3

After listing that, there are a few interesting tidbits:
Both the X-Box and the PS2 lack a huge platform game for 2002 to compete with Mario or a title with the enormous backing that Zelda has.  Both the PS2 and the X-Box also lack a huge system selling RPG as well.  FFXI may be what Sony needs to start their online funk, but I honestly don\'t see it being as popular as FFX or FFXII (Single player games) will be.

This puzzles me simply because the Japanese love their RPGs and if you want to be successful, you need a system selling RPG.  Enix and Squaresoft have a pretty clear release schedule now with the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts, FFX and FFXI as well as DQVII and DQIV being released in Japan and here in the states.  Naughty Dog makes one game at a time, but they have no immense plans after J&D as far as I can tell.  Sega has also said that Sonic will go to the cube, but their other franchises are waiting to be sorted through.  Perhaps the huge platform seller for the X-Box might be NiGHTs?

It\'s too early to tell right now, but both consoles have great futures ahead of them.  X-Box seems to be the developers platform of choice when it comes to new developers trying to break ground with a new company.  It just seems a lot of companies are keeping very quiet about their release schedules.  I think it\'s a show of the console war actually and the big guns will only be shown around E3 and Christmas time.  We\'ll see though.

Seven

Timesplitters 2 is going to the X-Box.  It\'s listed in the ign.xbox release calendar.

All these might not be system sellers, but the PS2 is getting quite a few RPGs within the next year:

Grandia 2
FFX
FFXI
Kingdom Hearts
Wild Arms 3
Xenosaga
Drakon II (kind of an RPG ;))
Evergrace 2
Phantasy Star Online (or is this a NGC exclusive now?)
Suikoden III
RPG Maker
X-Men RPG (I know I know, this is going to be one high quality  RPG ;))

This next year is going to be pure bliss for RPG fans. :)

Like you said Ryu, both consoles (actually all three consoles) have a bright future ahead of them.  Next year is going to be great no matter which console(s) you own.  My most anticipated games next year are Timesplitters 2 and Wipeout Fusion.  All the other games are just little bonuses. :)

Xenosaga... Now there\'s a game that just slipped right by my ass.  I take it back -- PS2 does have plenty of system selling RPG\'s.  That\'s not of importance to the US or to Europe, but it is to Japan.  I still don\'t see why X-Box doesn\'t have anything spectacular lined up for the Japanese though.  Hell, even if the day the X-Box launched they announcred, that\'s right, just announced, that Enix would make a DQ game for them... X-Box is a hit in Japan.  No doubt.
