Also it appears the white menu screen bit the colours seem to change very very slighly, never seems pure white. STANZO please check this for me.
Yep, thats what I get. It is mostly noticable on very dark colors such as dark grey and green. Say if the background is a dark grey like it is in the bottom right hand corner of the memory card browser menu, the grey color will appear to cycle to a slight red then green and back to grey.
When I first got my PS2 I didn\'t notice it at all untill I played FFVII to see how well the backwards compatibility worked. I noticed the colors in the pre-rendered backgrounds seemed to be swimming slightly. I tried different cables; AV, RFU and S-Video, but none of them helped at all.
I found a clue that may suggest the PS2 may be interfering with certain TV\'s. I have a SNES connected also to my TV via a AV multi switch so I can flick between my PS2 and my SNES without having to muck around with cables. Anyway, I was playing a game on my SNES and I decided to put an audio cd in my PS2 so I could listen to some tunes as I played. But as soon as I turned on the PS2 I noticed the same problem happening with the picture coming from my SNES. I then turned off the PS2 and it went away.
So I think it is a reasonable assumption that the PS2 is emmiting some sort of interference when it\'s powered up that causes the colors to swim on my television screen, and that may be the problem with yours RichG. The interesting thing is that when I connect my PS2 to the old 21" Sharp in the living room the problem doesn\'t occur, it only happens on my newish 21" Sony KVG21S Trinitron. But I am pretty certain that the PS2 is causing the problem and not the TV because all my other consoles don\'t do it.
My only suggestion is to either live with it (what I did), get a another PS2, or play on another TV.
