OK I sorta asked this already but due to Kopking\'s post i\'ve decided to reword it.

Ok not sure if my ps2 is playing up but...

On the white chose a demo menu screen the white colour looks like its changing colour, like its going from white to off white and back etc. VERY SLIGHTLY LOOK FOR THIS!

Also when you say complete the Silent Hill 2 demo the black screen (not with text) at the end looks like it sort of changes colour too, like black to off black (black with a sort of dull green) and back again. AGAIN ITS NOT OBVIOUS, LOOK FOR IT.

Both these examples are very subtle so its hard to see.

Could anyone with this setup, pal ps2, ops2 disc check this out for me ?

Im beginning to worry but it could just be tv or it could be the actual programs and demos after all i remember me and stanzo discussing how playstation world dvd is very flicky (an example where a disc could make you feel the ps2 was playing up).

Thanks again for your time.

Rich.

Rich, iv\'e checked it a few times m8.. even went as far as letting it auto select a demo.. iv\'e also tried sh2

I can\'t see anything wrong with it m8.. i\'m using an RGB scart lead on a new toshiba 29\'.

Let me know what television (make and how old) and what cable you\'re using to connect it to your PS2.

The only problems that i see with colours is if you do the following... go into your memory card saves.
now when you select a save the background colour changes. go back and forth making the background colour
change repeativly (spelling?) and you\'ll notice a colour banding comming from one corner of screen to the other
Is this simlar to what your\'e experiencing? i know for a fact that it\'s more noticeable with the normal lead that
come with the ps2 and it\'s also very noticeable with a standard RF lead..

Give me some more info m8, i highly doubt that it\'s your ps2.

Hey RichG, I\'m in the Netherlands with my PAL PS2 ! LOL
Anyway, I got it hooked up to a Sony Wega 27" via a RGB
EuroScart cable : I notice the contrast/colour changes in
Onimusha with it\'s prerendered backgrounds. Check this
out ; it was less noticable when I still used the standard
n cheap av cable ! Also I have no such problems in SH2
(the full game, that is !) I haven\'t checked the OPM demo
though !
I\'d say, don\'t worry.

Ok i\'ve had a good look at the problem.

I still can\'t tell what the problem is although im thinking its my "edited" scart cable. I removed pin 8 as it causes it to auto go to scart channel and add a widescreen effect which TVs should get rid of, mine didn\'t and thus pin 8 had to go. Read about it on the net.

Ok load up Silent Hill 2 on the main menu with Prologue and Battle its noticable there.

Its just like a pulse. Its like if you set your monitor down to less than 60hz refresh rate you would get a pulse like effect from that.

The best way to describe it is imagine a really low refresh rate, hence not so many updates of the screen so you see like a flicker which on black screens cause a slight well flicker. But black flicker can\'t exist right cause its all black? well this you can sort of notice yet its really hard to. Get close up to the TV. Thats best that I can describe it.

Also try between pressing Silent Hill 2 demo select bit and yellow this is a demo text. Thats quite a good example of it.

Also does the "white" menu screen not seem like a pure white menu screen but more offwhite and it sort of looks like it changes colour slightly if stare at it long enough.

Probably just me but checks these out when you get the time please. :) Thanks a lot.

Hmm, I think the problem DOES indeed origin in the "one less
pin" scart cable of yours. Old n f\'d up tv\'s also show such pulses,
but otherwise I think you just should get a tv which can handle
RGB scart in a normal way.
Good luck,
Knotter8:)

I get the color problem too (the slight contrast cycling on dark colors). I`ve connected my PS2 to my 21" Sony Trinitron using the standard AV cable and it is really noticable on dark static backgrounds (like the ones in Onimusha, FFVII etc). It really pissed me off when I first got my PS2 but i\'ve basically had to learn to live with it so now it isn\'t a big issue.

Really could you go into more detail about this colour cycling problem, just I know we are talking about the same thing.

Update: I tried a aerial cable. Seems better, which means it could be scart but im still not convinced.

then...

BAULDERS GATE DARK ALLIANCE DEMO! Screen with the controller bit is a prime example of this flickering problem. Yet to try a standard aerial cable with this but you will definatly see it here.

So if you all go and try the demo of that and let me know how you get on that will be great.

Then imagine this on a black background and you get the idea.

Also it appears the white menu screen bit the colours seem to change very very slighly, never seems pure white. STANZO please check this for me. :)

Time is of the essence since if I need a new PS2 ill have to get one soon the warrentee runs out very soon.

Thanks for the help.

Rich.

Yep, thats what I get. It is mostly noticable on very dark colors such as dark grey and green. Say if the background is a dark grey like it is in the bottom right hand corner of the memory card browser menu, the grey color will appear to cycle to a slight red then green and back to grey.

When I first got my PS2 I didn\'t notice it at all untill I played FFVII to see how well the backwards compatibility worked. I noticed the colors in the pre-rendered backgrounds seemed to be swimming slightly. I tried different cables; AV, RFU and S-Video, but none of them helped at all.

I found a clue that may suggest the PS2 may be interfering with certain TV\'s. I have a SNES connected also to my TV via a AV multi switch so I can flick between my PS2 and my SNES without having to muck around with cables. Anyway, I was playing a game on my SNES and I decided to put an audio cd in my PS2 so I could listen to some tunes as I played. But as soon as I turned on the PS2 I noticed the same problem happening with the picture coming from my SNES. I then turned off the PS2 and it went away.

So I think it is a reasonable assumption that the PS2 is emmiting some sort of interference when it\'s powered up that causes the colors to swim on my television screen, and that may be the problem with yours RichG. The interesting thing is that when I connect my PS2 to the old 21" Sharp in the living room the problem doesn\'t occur, it only happens on my newish 21" Sony KVG21S Trinitron. But I am pretty certain that the PS2 is causing the problem and not the TV because all my other consoles don\'t do it.

My only suggestion is to either live with it (what I did), get a another PS2, or play on another TV.
