~Official NFL Playoffs Thread~
« on: January 11, 2002, 06:51:51 PM »
Here we go, the big games are on now. Just to refresh you ignorant folks on the playoff picture here it is, with my predictions:

Saturday, Jan. 12:

Tampa Bay @ Philadelphia

Okay, we\'ve seen these teams play each other before, but the playoffs is a whole different story. Personally, I think these teams are very evenly matched. Tampa Bay has proved to the world once again that it is unstoppable in December. Keyshawn Johnson has finally reached the endzone, and the Bucs have a dangerous corner in Ronde Barber. However the if we look at the Eagles, we see a young and talented Donovan McNabb. McNabb has the feet and the long ball that can be punishing. And the Eagles defense has the best linebackers in the league. Overall, 2 low scoring teams. But I give the win to the Eagles because Warrick Dunn is facing an injury and Alstott will be stopped.

For last year\'s playoff game, the Bucs arrived early in Philadelphia because of an advancing snowstorm. This time, the Bucs might come early again -- but to test the new Veterans Stadium turf.  -NFL.com

Eagles = 13 v. Bucs = 7

Saturday, Jan. 12:

NY Jets @ Oakland

 Interesting thing about this game, is that these teams just played each other last week. In which the Jets pulled out a major upset.  Proving that the Jets can win in the "Black Hole". These certain times where teams, just "own" teams, well I think that the Jets own Oakland. Jets win, in large part to Curtis Martin.

Jets = 20 v. Raiders = 17 OT

The two coaches in Saturday\'s game, the Jets\' Herman Edwards and Oakland\'s Jon Gruden, both share a fiery passion for the game. But it\'s their ability to stay on an even keel that has also helped their teams advance this far. -NFL.com

Sunday, Jan.13:

San Francisco @ Green Bay

 Niners, my favorite team are heading to Lambeau. Last time these two teams faced each other in the playoffs the game was decided by a Steve Young pass in the final seconds of the game to Terrell Owens, and the Niners won. This time, the game is at Lambeau. The Packers are 12-0 at Lambeau in the playoffs. Brett Favre\'s statistics on a bar graph from November are slowly getting smaller. And the Niners are coming off a huge win by skunking the Saints 35-0 at New Orleans. Gonna be a good and close one, but the Niners are gonna melt some cheese.

Niners = 34 v. Packers = 24

Three years ago, the Packers and 49ers engaged in a classic playoff duel in San Francisco. This time, while some of the faces have changed, quite a few key players from that game remain, most notably Pro Bowlers Brett Favre and Terrell Owens. -NFL.com

Sunday, Jan.13:

 Baltimore @ Miami

 This is gonna be a boring game. Miami and Baltimmore are some boring teams. Win or lose, these teams aren\'t going anywhere in the playoffs because they both lack offense. These are the lousiest offensive teams in the league. However Miami\'s offense plays surprisingly well sometimes at home. And Baltimore barely even got to the playoffs in which they almost lost one to the Vikings (Yeah, the VIkings who lost to the Lions and Panthers). No superbowl repeat for the Ravens.

Dolphins = 21 v. Ravens = 9

It\'s a classic duel of defenses -- and similar styles -- between the Ravens and Dolphins. "When I look at them on film I see us, in teal and orange, because that is what they hang their hat on, on defense," Ravens TE Shannon Sharpe says. -NFL.com

well I hope your right about the niners, since I\'m a life long niner fan, but it\'ll be a tuff game, I just hope Jeff Garcia can step up to the plate in a prime time game, un-like what he did against the rams.
BTW have you ever heard Jeff in an interview?  He sounds a bit.....festive....but as long as he can sling the ball as well as he\'s been doing he can make sweet love to squirrels and other small woodland creatures, as far as I care.

Garcia only has bad games against St. Louis. And he doesn\'t sound festive. Why do people say that? He just sounds like a normal QB in the NFL.

Niners are going to get spanked at Lambeu.  I\'m sorry, but when it comes to Garcia, he chokes at big games.  As for his festive voice, well, he has a strong right arm it seems ;)

Garcia chokes in the big games? I don\'t think so. He only chokes against the Rams.

Garcia had all-star performances against: Saints (twice), Eagles, Dolphins and Bears which were all very good games.

Packers are so overrated.

Looks like my prediction is looking good with the Eagles beating the Bucanners right now 10-6.

I\'m just gonna make predictions as the playoffs continue each week.

So far I\'m 1-1, with the Jets losin\' a close one to the Raiders. I hate the Raiders. Raiders fans are idiots. They don\'t realize that the Raiders are like the Yankees, just bought their entire team. They wouldn\'t be jack without former NINERS Rice and Garner.

Billy I don\'t like your predictions, to uh, predictable. :laughing:

If the Niners don\'t win the big game though, I wanna see the Patriots or Steelers win it.

TEAMS I DON\'T WANT TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL: Rams and Raiders

I hate those teams. :)

Raiders 38-Jets 24
Jerry Rice is STILL the man!

Edit: Sundays Results:
Packers 25- Niners 15

Niners lose...... :(

Damn. Good game though, I\'m gonna be rootin\' for the Packers in the NFC though.

It was all about home field though. Packers had momentum the entire game because they were at home. If the they were at 3com, the Niners woulda won cuz\' they would get the momentum.

.....better luck next year. :(

Damn my Niners lost, nooooooooo..........

Oh well it looks like I have to find some other team to root for now, so I\'m gonna go with the Raiders in the AFC because they\'re from the Bay Area, and I\'m gonna take the guys that bumped my guys outta the playoffs, the Packers.  Too bad next week they have to play St.Louis, that is gonna be one helluva game, the Pack defence better play their best ball of the year, and hopefully A.Green can run the ball well and keep the Rams Offense off the field.  Everything will have to go just right, if the Packers are gonna walk out of St.Louis with a win.
