I\'m sure it will turn out good, but I\'ve lost a lot of faith in the whole FPS genre...  Especially after playing Castlevania on GBA, I\'ve realized that 2D gaming is still a wonderful thing.

Anyway, the thing I really wanted to reply to is the idea that this is not a Metroid game.

The problem I have with that thought is that... it is.

It says Metroid right on the title and that makes it a Metroid game, doesn\'t it?  Oh wait, it\'s a FPS now so that means it\'s not really Metroid?

Then I guess Mario 64 wasn\'t really Mario since it wasn\'t 2D...

And GTA3 wasn\'t Grand Theft Auto since it wasn\'t an overhead game.

And Madden 2K2 isn\'t Madden since it started as a 2D game.

And FFX isn\'t really Final Fantasy since those games used to be good.  ;]

It\'s just a silly argument to have.

Anyways, I\'ll give Metroid the benefit of the doubt, but I\'ll also admit that I\'m not really anticipating it that much.

It shows that you never played the original, thats all I have to say

I own Super Metroid and it\'s a great game.  Unlike alot of Metroid fans I\'ve always felt an FPS which puts you in Samus\'s shoes would be really cool.  Like people wonder now I always wondered how much of the gameplay elements could be transferred into 3D.

Some things will have to be sacrificed but that doesn\'t mean it can\'t still be Metroid and still be great all in the same.  Mario 64 plays nothing like any Mario game before it yet it\'s still Mario and it\'s still a great game.

What I believe alot of people fail to realize is that it\'s not aiming to retain the traditional Metroid style but instead have add a new experience to the franchise that allows you to explore it differently.

We haven\'t been given any information on how the game will play but hopefully it\'ll establish something new in the FPS genre.  Miyamoto hates repeating ideas that have been done before so he probably has a couple tricks up his sleeve to make it stand out from the crowd.  Some games are referred to as Quake style, others GoldenEye styel, other Half-Life style, and still others Rainbow Six style.  Is there any reason why the game can\'t create it\'s own Metroid Prime style?  I\'m not saying it will but we\'ll just have to wait and see.  And if your a Nintendo fan you\'re used to waiting.

BOTTOM LINE: There isn\'t enough info for people to even know that this game is 100% FPS, cuz\' there are rumors that it switches to 3d as well (i.e. MGS2).

And Nintendo rules at changing games faces. Look at Mario 64? Zelda Ocarina of Time? Wave Race? Donkey Kong 64? Mario RPG?

All were different, all kicked ass.

Mario 64 was still a platformer with jumping puzzles and power ups--looking at the game anyone would recognize it as Mario.

Why do people say the Saturn really never had a Sonic game.  There were about 1/2 dozen games with Sonic in them, but none of them counted.  Why?  Because fundamental elements that make sonic what it is weren\'t in those games.

Anyone who loved and played the Metroid games knows that you can\'t capture that in a 3-d world.

Oh I think you can. I just don\'t see where it\'s feasable in a FPS without some MAJOR overhauls to the game engine and a fundimental shift in the way FPS\'s are made. So far, these screenshots are showing nothing of the sort.

BTW: If the age is a factor in weither or not you\'ll play/enjoy a game, then personally I find you one sad excuse for a gamer. That\'s jus my opinion tho.

I agree with SonyFan. This is Nintendo. They can do anything. I\'m pretty sure you can still capture Metroid\'s "Feel" in a first person perspective.

Your not a true Metroid fan if you can\'t accept the change.

Uhhhhhhhh.....Retro Studios made it.........thats an american company...........If you don\'t accept metriod as a FPS your not a fan of it???!?!?!  Okay..........I guess if you don\'t accept celda cel-shaded your not a zelda fan.  Heck, at least from the looks of celda it seems to have a kept the same gameplay elements as the other zelda games.  Metriod on nes and snes doesn not play like a FPS and never will this isn\'t meant to be.........btw, metriod is being made by different developers.

2D games were fun back then - still is today.

Example :

I prefer Abe\'s Oddysee and Abe\'s Exoddus over the gameplay of Munch\'s Oddysee. Why? It\'s just more fun. Old school side scroller is not to be set aside when the fun factor is still there. Sure there\'s more potential in a 3D game. A 3D platformer can jump into a plane or car VOILA! You get a racing game or flying game - like Mario64 did(flying and swimming Mario).

But a lot of people still had more fun with Super Mario World 3 over Mario 64.

The problem with Metroid is - from a side scrolling 2D game, it jumped to FPS! It wouldn\'t be so bad if it was Zelda64 style, you can still see the character. But a FPS????? A bit much.

It\'s not even in the same genre.

I don\'t even know what this means.  What the hell are you trying to say?

Sonic did not go 3d on the Saturn.  It went semi 3d iso-perspective--it almost felt like Sonic was on a rail.  It did not capture what Sonic is.  You obviously didn\'t play it.

I can\'t imagine a FPS scenario or engine that can capture what metroid was.  Add that to the fact that it\'s in another developer\'s hands and I\'m not sure how anyone can say this is Metroid.  If Acclaim made an RPG using Street Fighter characters, would that be a SF game?  I\'m not sure how you can even argue this.

I think we can determine for ourselves whether or not we\'re a true Metroid fan.
