A couple of days ago http://www.channeltechnology.com went to court to fight sony for the right to produce *******s.

Unsurprisingly they have lost the case so have been forced to shut down.

Visit the website http://www.channeltechnology.com to see their farewell message.

I can\'t believe how much loyalty you have towards Sony. For starters Sony are the ratbags who last year disapointed loads of people as they couldn\'t manufacture enough PS2s to meet the demand which their hype generated. Also there was that internal memo which stated that lots of the consoles wasn\'t up to consumer standards.

This company hasn\'t done anything wrong. Its created a m0dchip which although has illegal functions like a CD-writer has, also has normal legal functions, again, like a CD-writer. Its up the human being in question whether they want to break the law or not just like the human beings who own DVD and CD writers.

Thus for you to wish homelessness on them is in my opinion a bit nasty. You say it *probably* stole PS2 archetecture yet you don\'t know this as fact.

Im not getting at you personnally but its just I sort of hate Sony now. Not because of the m0dchip thing but because of they way they treat their customers, me for one.

I don\'t own a m0dchip but if a chip which could play import originals was availible i\'d want it.

I agree with you Rich, all us PAL users could now be playing MSG2 and Final Fantasy X. But instead we have to wait months later.

my attitude vs them has nothing to do with sony solely

piracy is one of the large reasons why we pay $50+ for games

stealing technology from another company to make profit is a crime.  what they were doing was illegal.

Oh yeah? Well...  I can\'t believe how loyal you are to... rules... and.... intellectual property.

Do you really think that has to do with the price of games, though?  Maybe it could if it got out of hand, but the industry earns millions.  I think they just price it up there because they know we\'ll pay for it.

Don\'t think so?  They\'ve already sold almost 2 million Xboxes at 300 a pop.  And some 28 million of another similarly priced system. :)

they didn\'t steal any intellectual property from Sony and their ******* was the only one who could be used for legal purposes, like import originals.
Sony doesn\'t respect PAL gamers at all and it will lead to more piracy IMO.

@ JP: That´s all I was about to say...
...now I have to wait again to play import games !
The "Erlöser" was a very fine pice of art and it was smashed down for no reason. SONY should be happy when the Chip came out (it was before X-Mass)... it would give the PS2 sells a nice boost ! But no...
There are so many ways to play... you know... but this Chip was the first one for Imports (and that without Bios touched) !

Yeah, Sony shot themselves in the foot this time... People who were waiting for this chip are now gonna get a chip which doesn\'t play import originals instead.

And I\'m a firm believer that people should be able to modify their consoles coz it\'s their console and their property.
In Norway we have a law that says you\'re entitled to own one backup each of your games.
But what good is that law if you can\'t modify your own console to play these backups.

And I\'ve also been wondering why a ******* is more illegal than a CD writer, it\'s just puzzles me.
How much money does Sony make off their cd burners and cd media?
I bet that most of the Sony burners and media isn\'t used for legal purposes only.

And to mm, you really think game companies would reduce their price of games if piracy ended tomorrow?
I don\'t think so. If piracy was none existent, they could charge whatever they wanted.

no, piracy costs companies BILLIONS and billions of dollars.  look at the record industry.  look how many music stores went belly up.  just in my area alone, camelot music, waves music, and national record mart went bankrupt.  reason, you may ask?  lack of sales.

i wonder why

im not saying im immune from pirating music.  hell, they make it too easy

The thing about game piracy costing the industry X amount of money is highly speculative IMO (BTW, I\'m talking about games for personal use and not about businesses pirating applications).
You can say that piracy doesn\'t cost a thing coz you don\'t know if
those who pirated would buy the game if it was unpiratable, if you know what I mean.
I know it is costing the industry money but how much is impossible to tell.

I hardly think it\'s piracy that makes game companies charge 50 bucks per game. If there weren\'t any piracy, game companies would jack up the price even more coz they\'d know there was no other alternative for people to get the game than to buy it. They sure as hell wouldn\'t lower the price that\'s for certain.

I still buy CDs even though I probably could pirate them all, hell, I\'ve bought 250 cds the last 4 years.
But CDs have much higher replay value and they\'re cheaper than games.
So I find their price justifiable compared to games which are too damn expensive.
Look at Onimusha, 6 hours to complete, limited replay value. 50 bucks divided by 6 hours equals about 8.33 bucks an hour. That\'s expensive entertainment if you ask me.
