Questions with Xbox Malice:
« on: February 08, 2002, 07:36:15 PM »
I can\'t wait for this title!  Special thanks to IGN.com for the info.  :)

IGN talks with Argonaut about their long awaited, highly anticipated Xbox title.

Ever since we caught a glimpse of Malice during the Xbox hardware demonstration at the 2001 CES, gamers have been twiddling their thumbs waiting to see if Malice will actually look and play as beautifully as that demo promised. We\'re happy to give you the cliched update about that game and tell you that it\'s progressing nicely. So nicely in fact that Argonaut was more than happy to tell us a thing or two about the little lady with the giant hammer.
In a rare display of unity the team at Argonaut was interviewed as a single entity, no individual names were given. This wasn\'t done to protect the innocent as much as it was done to show how the individual elements of a game must come together into one cohesive whole. The designers, artists, programmers, sound people and anybody else with something to say contributed answers to the questions IGN had about Malice.

Take your time to absorb the details and love the fresh crop of new screenshots we\'ve included in the story.

IGN: Is there more pressure on you to get the most out of the Xbox because Malice was included in the demonstration of the hardware?

Argonaut: Certainly, there are expectations, but the truth is we like to apply that pressure to ourselves...it\'s kind of how all this started, a bunch of hugely inventive coders and artists working from a very mad design. Microsoft liked what we were doing and asked us to put one of our levels into a format they could use to demo the hardware at CES.

Having Malice seen as one of the first games to demonstrate the power of Xbox was a moment of pride for us all and a realisation of the vision and potential of all our hard work on this title and on this particular platform. The technology available in developing for the Xbox has allowed us to realise and characterise the whole premise of the game to some phenomenal extremes.

We have a bunch of people doing nothing but looking for as many cool things as we can do with all this cool new hardware...the temptation is always to push it till it breaks and then bring it back from the brink. Pressure? Of course there\'s pressure... but we love it.

why are the back ground textures so blurry?  look at the ground she is standing on..

frankly J&D looks better than these tiny pics..

then again, this does look pretty sewper with larger pics, and i havent seen it in motion..

I\'m not sure what you mean, but J&D does not look as good as these pics.  I say pics because who knows what the actual game will look like.

those pics arent as impressive as the original pics, but seeing as J&D looks horrible in pics compared to in motion on a Teevee, ill refrain from making such comparisons in the futture.

but for the record, im not impressed by these pics

Bob, I\'ve noticed that picture was odd too, but I think the game is not done yet.  It should look better later.  =)

Terry Bogard, don\'t know a soild release date yet,  but I\'m hoping some word will leak out soon. =)

Watchdog,  J&D takes the show untill we see this one done, we will know how well it stands.  But with the bumpmapping in Malice, this will set aside the rest.  =)

uhh...i dont know what makes you think it will look better at a later date pstwo...i wouldnt count on it...  characters seem to look good, but to me, the background textures seem a little blurry

and alas, no word on gameplay so we are stuck talking about how the game looks

Well ive seen the game in motion and it looks really good. J&D is still one of my fav. games though. Ive seen screens from the ps2 version too and to my surprize they were not that far off from the xbox version. I have yet to see a screen to compare the bump-mapping on the ps2 version. I hope they dont bomb, eventhough i doubt they will.

Bob malice beats j and d graphics pretty bad just look at it malice has better textures, bump mapping, and very detail backgrounds.  Don\'t get me wrong j and d looks good, but malice looks better.

Your comment above proves that you are a fanboy rasta, not an all around gamer.  That whole comment screams Xbox fanboyism. You call yourself all around? Hmm, don\'t make a post where you can\'t back it up with facts. Are there facts that say that Malice looks better then J and D? no........Malice beats J and D pretty bad, hmm, another fanboy comment. Malice looks sweet, but there is no way in hell it beats J and D "Pretty bad" like you said it does....

naawww, i need to see Malice running on a full screen TV before i can really compare the two.  but those pics posted in this thread show a severe lack of details, bad texturing and... who the hell cares about bump mapping??  its a nice little feature, but c\'mon..

even from bad quality captures you can see the ground isnt as blurry as what malices is, how can you say thetexturing is better..?   look over in the corner of that malice pic...its all just one color

..paint me unimpressed

better pics would prolly help, saying its beats J&D pretty bad...eh

Malice does not blow J&D away.

J&D has a very impressive drawdistance. And I think Naughty Dog did a great job on the textures.

Now.. I cant wait for J&D2.. (Which, rast is going to have bumpmapped  textures.. Which seems so important to you) :P

Well those screens aren\'t the best example, I\'ve seen others that are far and away better than those, but as I said earlier, these are just screen shots, and really who knows what the final game will look like.  This argument shouldn\'t even exist.
