Yea, but let\'s not forget the face of that old man Sony released a couple years back before the PS2 release. It was almost like looking at a pic. of a real person

Actually, that was Square\'s tech demo.. not Sony\'s. And Shenmue has faces that put both Barry and the Old man\'s to shame. In game too. Well.. if you consider rotatable busts explaining game functions as an In-Game feature. :p

Anyhow, the textures are pretty washed out and there\'s a few jaggies. Not what I would have expected from the NGC. Hopefully these are still just early shots and don\'t reflect the final product.

Uh, no. Shenmue is a great looking game but it doesnt pass up the old  mans face at all. Sure they look detailed and clean but every wrinkle and crevice was animated on the old man, plus he had great expressions. If i remember correctly the face itself had about 100,000 polys in it. I need to find the screen. But your right about the washed up textures on barry. They remind me of the first screens of the uniforms in extermination. I think they will look better though cause if you saw how detailed chris redfield was then you know barrys bound to get a "face" lift. Plus everything else is pre-rendered in the game so i dont see a reason for the characters not to look good.

I\'m not talking about the In-Game faces here Nikon. I\'m talking about the busts of the character who explain the game features on the Passport disk. Those models use extreemely high polygon counts because all you ever see is the immedeate enviroment and their head & shoulders. Segafanboys used to come in here all the time with screenshots of Chi\'s face which was detailed down to ever last bump in the earwax stuck in his lobes. The DIDN\'T show the old man who explains the "Magic Weather" features of Shenmue. His wrinkles are also animated, and it creates a very impressive look while you move the lightsource and camera around. I have the tech demo movie for the old man on my PC.. and yes.. Shenmue\'s old man does beat it. In the actual game though, his face is only comprised of around 15 to 20 polygons at most which are extreemely well textured.

Yeah, I\'m sure Barry will improve. I just don\'t think that THIS screen is anything to get excited about. That\'s all.

i hope you mean 15-16,000. As much as i would have to disagree i guess its really an opinion. And yes you are right about the detail on Chi\'s face but still. Im still pretty impressed though that dc could only produce around 3 mil polys.

They\'re pretty close actually. What Shenmue lacks in polygons it more than makes up for in textures, and vice versa with the Square demo. Also, the DC can do more than 3 million PPS in game. That\'s already been proven. Sega\'s numbers are concervitive, like the NGC\'s. They reflect the final product, not the maximum it can pump out. Software shortcuts and other programming tricks have upped that number from Sega\'s original estimate. I think it was Ferrari 355 that broke the 5 million mark... but I\'m not sure.
