Cats offer companionship for those who may not be able to handle a dog.  Old crippled people on the verge of death (such as Videoholic) might need a cat as they might not be able to take their dog for a walk everyday.. or cleans their rolled up sweater after the dog has had its way with it

get over it people.. Cats lower stress, simple as that.

I couldn\'t have said it better myself, but most people dodge my posts anyways (especially in this thread) when I try to start a serious debate so it\'s ok.

Do you think your cat gives a damn about you? Cats are probably the most unloyal pets you can have. Honestly, I think a goldfish is my loyal than a cat. The cat only needs you because you know how to use a can opener and clean out a litter box... Which brings me to this... ALL PEOPLE WHO OWN CATS HAVE STINKY ASS HOUSES! Man those litterboxes just make the whole place reek, really sometimes I can\'t stand it, you let your cat sit in a sandbox in the corner of your living room and take a **** right there. It\'s almost mind-boggling.

You want loyal? How about a true story of a dog who visited a train station for 4 years by himself, because he was looking for his dead master who was transported out of that same train station in a casket. Honest to god there\'s a statue of that dog in that train station. Thats loyal.

Cats, they cause allergies, trip people up from the top of stairs.....evil. And they steal baby\'s breaths. This is true. They were once thought to steal baby\'s breaths back in the 17th and 18 century. It turns out that cats like to cuddle up to baby\'s faces for warmth....sometimes causing suffocation.

dogs run away and get hit by cars.. dogs cause heartbreak and little girls (like Racer) cry..

ok.. lets get on with talking about the animals ****..

the only stinky houses are houses with people who dont clean their trays out properly.. ive lived with many cats with litter trays and none of my houses have stuink

and what about cats that dont use litter trays?  they go outside?  do you need to pick up the **** after the cat?  do you ever find a cats **** on your couch?  in your bed?  all over your face after sleeping next to your dog?  i dont think so..

do you find comfort and enjoyment out of walking your dog to the park and having to carry a small plastic bag around picking up its ****?  you like carrying that **** around like it was a bag of cookies?  do you feed that **** to girl scouts?  (if you do.. i must insist you send me a video)

what about babies?  how useless are they.. they **** themselves all the time, the room that their nappies are kept in stink, honestly, you just sit there and let a baby take a **** on your lap.. WHAT IS THE POINT IN HAVING A BABY

My dog is actually quite smart. He fetches the news paper from the mail box, as long as its in the plastic bag. He gets my slippers or shoes (yeah, he knows the difference). He doesn\'t need a leash to be walked. He stays within six feet of me always.

And even if one\'s dog only knows STOP/NO/SIT/STAY - the dog still has potential to help their owner. Let\'s say you\'re mowing the lawn....and a large tree branch fell on you (coz a black cat crossed your path last night and cursed you with bad luck). Now you\'re laying there, unconcous and pinned under a large branch.

Your dog would know that you\'re hurt and try to help in some way like bark to get someone\'s attention to help your cat loving ass, or pull you out from under the branch.

A cat, sitting on a window sill would just lick its paws and balls waiting to get hungry.

you people seem to think that dogs are around soley for practicle use, when in actual fact they are around for the same reasons as cats.. to provide a companion..

dogs = companion, as long as you are energetic and want to put in the effort

cats = companion for those unable/unwilling to put in that effort

cats are also more trustworthy.. i wouldnt let a toddler within 10 yards of a large dog etc. etc.  the pros and cons are endless, get over it..

The "useless" comments are in jest (yet true). I used to own a Turkish Angora cat. Hell, it was so independant that I only knew I owned one when it was hungry and meowed like a crying child when it wanted food. Otherwise, it was sleeping 18 hours a day.

I owned a dog before that cat. I was glad the cat ran away, despite the first quality 3 years as a good cat, it suddenly became aloof. Last time I\'ll ever own one.

Then my brother got a cute little puppy. When he left, he gave Rocky to me. Man, what a fun dog. Sometimes he walks himself. I\'d say GO and he\'ll run off, mark his territory, crap on someone\'s yard...and Rocky knew to bolt once that happened. Coz I ain\'t carrying his crap back home. I\'d casually walk back home pretending it wasn\'t my dog. Rocky always took the short cut home. So I was an accessory.

It doesn\'t take that long to train a dog.
