Having an excellent time with WRC 2001.

The graphics is darker compared to Xbox\'s Rallisport Challenge (RSC seems to have more eye friendly "pastel" like colors)....but i\'ve played only two stages so far, Portugal and Sweden. WRC seems to offer a more realistic terrain, hence the "browness" of Portugal. Sweden was quite the opposite of Portugal since it was a winter stage. Compared to GT3, I\'d say GT3 is slightly better but mainly coz the cars reflect so much so it may be deceiving. Also, WRC, the cars are a magnet for dust. At least the lens flare and sun glare effects aren\'t so intrusive like GT3\'s over the top lens flares.

And as for the draw distance.....it\'s phenomenal! No wonder the loading takes a whole minute for each stage! It\'s HUGE! You can see for miles if your car had a particular vantage point in the stage!

Physics is slightly better than RSC (played RSC for about an hour at the ElBo store). But if there was one game to compare WRC and RSC to, it would be Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and not GT3. And still, CMR2 is the best out of the bunch.

Sound, however, goes to WRC. The cricket sound effect of the blow off valve of the WRC cars is exactly how they sound in real life. To those who\'ve never seen a WRC, they may sound like suspension creaks but they\'re not. The backfire of the exhaust note is pretty close too. The Co-Driver sounds like he speaking to you through a tube, though. But that\'s being picky.

Gameplay is fun but like I said, it\'s not better then CMR2.0 but at least it\'s better than GT3\'s rally mode, IMO. Should you drive or fly off the track, the game will put you back on the track after a countdown of 3 seconds.

The Difficulty was set at Normal and I was already leading each stage unless I had a huge "off" but I\'d still end up winning the rally regardless.

All in all, it\'s a good answer to Xbox\'s RSC....but niether one lives up to Colin McRae\'s Rally.

sorry if im being a idiot, but is this the one that has been out for quite a while on ps2??? cos if it is, i didnt like it at all...the cars sorta floated, and felt the turned on a pole in the middle of the car, rather than front wheels steering

Thx now i might be getting this game, oh well my old brother is going to buy hehe, since he loves rally.!!  Thx man for the little review about the game, and j ust wondering, does it has damage on the car, like if you hit something the car destroys it self, when you make a wrong turn, does the game put you automatically on the track to go racing again, or you have to fix the error and go back on track, tell me more plz if you could?!?

I hit a tree head on while on 6th gear...and the steam was billowing out of teh engine and the car kept turning to the right. The tranny sounded like a tractor and it took a few seconds for the gear to engage. Heh! And yeah, teh game puts you in the right direction when it puts you back on the track. So, no short cuts! That\'s cheating! :D

BTW, for you Europeans....the game was just released in the US a week ago.

They must have tweaked the game for us coz mine was practically as slow as a snail after I hit the tree! And if I recall, I could never kill my car in CMR2.0 either.

I\'ve heard good things about it, never played it tho. One of my mates back at uni has just got it, so I think I\'ll have a borrow when I go back in a couple of weeks.

I just picked up WRC in the US.

I found it to be way to easy and the stages are incredibly short.
Some as short as 80 seconds.

And with the long load times it got very frustrating.

I really reccommed renting this first you guys.

It\'s a little dissapointing to me.

The graphics are nice and the controls are nice. But it get\'s boring really quick because of the lack of a challenge.

Like the thread starter said, he went off track  a couple of times and still won the stage. That shouldn\'t happen.

I didn\'t really like the damage system either. it wasn\'t sesnitve enough or progressive. It seemed like, no damage, no damage, no damage and then BOOM full damage.

Plus there should be a garage to manage repairs. Deciding what to fix in "X" amount of time is a big strategy in Rally.

I will be trading this in and the holding out for CM3.

BTW: I didn\'t like GT3\'s rally mode at all. It felt sort of pasted on to the game, if you knwo what I mean.

Later
