are these screens supposed to be impressive..?

far as i can tell, that racing game screen shot looks little better than the first Ridge Racer 5 screens that were released when the PS2 was announced... surprisingly similar actually..

i mean, at least Ridge Racer 5 doesnt have the same tree/bush combinations over and over again..

[edit]

but the draw distance is nice.. dont get me wrong, it is alot better than Ridge Racer.. but just from one pic i would give GT3 the edge  :)

I agree with Bob... those two screens don\'t look too impressive at all. The first picture does look very similar to Ridge Racer V - just with no aliasing and a much higer resolution. The detail on the road is quite nice, but the buildings look pretty underwhelming, especially I would want to see some nice reflections which seem to be absent. The second pic is even less impressive, especially with the weak textures that remind me of Timesplitters (especially the floor). I will agree that with time the PC will look better graphically than the current consoles available - but that\'s how technology progresses, isn\'t it?

I don\'t see the PC outshinning the console in fun or pure entertainment any time soon if ever. There\'s nothing more fun than sitting with your friends infront of a big tv (or Plasma tv) and enjoying fun classics.

Not much.. Its more like what they didn’t [have time to] put it.. Considering its only using 25% of PS2s potential ;)

...and just to add; GT3 looks better in motion - and we all experienced how it feels like driving with a RUF Porsche on the wet course at over 300 km/h... Pretty damn amazing.

i think they forgot to put the textures on that 1st pic

and the 2nd pic is NOWHERE near the quality of the one i posted
dont get me wrong, GT3 is a great racing game, but too many graphical flaws for my tastes

i guess my Gf4 has tainted me with 4x AA

These screens were grabbed via the AV output on the back. Not via the framebuffer like those PC screens.

Framebuffer > AV output

Here is a Framebuffer screen of GT3 :)

IMHO, the cars look better in GT3 (including detail):

Quite nice detail on the road.. and the reflections on the road are stunning.

Check the backlights of the PC car racer, looks pretty bland to me. The overall textures on the cars aren\'t too impressive either. The PC Racer might have impressive AA and high res textures on everything else, but I would want to see how it looks in motion first. GT3 just has lots of effects involved.. realtime reflections on cars and buildings - the pic you posted just looks.. mmh, different. The detail is imense though, and the PC will always blow consoles away in resolution.

BTW: while we\'re speaking of detail: check the buildings in your pic. Might be colorful and pretty - but it hardly looks better than Ridge Racer V in those terms. GT3 has real time reflections on them aswell... (nicely seen in the Tokyo course).

EDIT: GT3 has problems in some courses which look graphically qiute disappointing. (Like the first screen Fast posted) - those are due to time issues - the other courses like Toyko which look much better clearly prove this.

Yeah, drive by that SCEI building on the Tokyo Level in GT3 and you can actually see the other buildings reflecting on the glass.
