(Biasedly hmm... Trog is gonna get me for that one ;) )

I was at GameStop! a gaming store that is like the Starbucks of videogames here in Vegas. They are opening stores everywhere around here, and I\'m not complaining at all.

However when I was just browsing around, I noticed that they had two stations up, a PS2 one and an X-box one. And the X-box had a section that was just decked out with posters, cardboard stand-ups, flashing lights, etc. The PS2 area had literally nothing, and the game station had Top Gun... come on, your trying to help sell the PS2, put in Metal Gear Solid 2 or some eye-candy like The Bouncer.

So I head over to the X-box portion of the store and I began to read this giant magazine article that they taped onto the Demo Station. It was of course from an X-box mag and god was it the most biased piece of crap ever. It basically listed 100 reasons why you should buy an X-box. And it would state a unique fact and then under it, it would say, "And the competition..." and they would just slam the PS2 and Gamecube. Keep in mind it was some pages ripped out of a magazine and sloppily taped on to the station, so it had to be some employee.

For instance, mentioning controller ports,
Quote
"X-box comes loaded with four controller ports which comes handy in today\'s games which are revolutionizing multiplayer gaming as we know it."

And the competition: "PS2 once again expects owners to pay 35 dollars for a multi-tap or they just assume that you are a loser and have no friends. Gamecube has the four controller ports, but unfortunately it will be likely one of you will be forced to control a pink fluffy character."

After reading I kept browsing and I heard a confused mother asking which system would be best for her 7-year old son... When all of a sudden the employee starts screaming "X-BOX!" and gives these number-boggling specs to this lady, who has no idea what the hell he\'s talkign about, and she was literally forced to buy the X-box.

Another guy asked if Spider-Man was good, and another employee says, "Oh its great on X-box... not too bad on Gamecube.. but its the worst on PS2." I ALMOST SCREAMED, ITS THE SAME F**KING GAME! WHO CARES WHAT SYSTEM!?

Keep in mind the only reason I was still hanging around was I was waiting for a ride. And customers came and all i heard was, "X-box!""X-box!""X-box!". So five X-box fanboys come in and they have the most obnoxious conversation I had ever heard, I was just seriously grinding my teeth...

I am not saying the X-box sucks. It, as well as GC and PS2, are great systems (although if you asked I would say PS2). My point is, isn\'t this store trying to just sell systems? Why downgrade other systems so they don\'t sell? All systems should be advertised to the max, and employees shouldn\'t bring up personal opinions.

Sounds just like when Sony blackmailed retailers to push PS2 and relegate all competitors to some corner.

Every powerful company does it.

What makes MS so different?
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

I agree with mm and Ashford (believe it or not)

Nintendo set the precedent for telling retailers not to do this or that or "no games for you!" back in the 80\'s.  Then Sony did for after their PS2 US debut when MS started its hype machine.

But....retailers need to push products that are slow too.

I believe the person you ran into was just a rabid XBox fanboy. Certainly out of the ordinary, since the eb, GameStop (formelly Babbages), and S etc. guys here seem to all be just PC or PS2 gamers.

The reason you see so many XBox things is because MS sends out many things for advertising and stuff to put on demo units. What idiot retailer would not put free stuff to make a product look better up? Our MS rep brings us new demo discs (Nintendo finally swung around last week and put a new demo in the GC, the old one was October 2001!!!) Every month, after a week, we can put in any game we want, gives us promotional stuff, etc. We have no Sony rep, as far as I can tell, which is why Sony demo units look like crap much of the time. We put games we want in the PS2s we have set up, but there is no promotional stuff.

Plus, most casual gamers are very impressed with graphics when they can\'t decide what to buy, well, our XBox and PS2 are right next to each other, if that tells you anything :)

Cool guys. I have heard of Software Inc. I was just curious because they are popping up everywhere. I was also thinking about getting a job there, like stocking or something because I know you must be 18 or over to work the register. Hell just to stand around and talk to people and give my unbiased advice wouldnt\' be bad.
