Darth Joyda\'s ATTACK OF THE CLONES review
« on: May 16, 2002, 06:35:07 AM »
This review contains no Spoilers considering Plot-twists; but it does include few character-describtions. You should be able to read it through without any fears of being raped with knowledge

I hadn\'t reserved tickets. I hadn\'t been very enthusiastic towards the late evening of May 15th; and my expectations were sweeping the floor of the Theater only moments before the Movie began. I was hoping for an experience beyond Phantom Menace - and I have to say that the Future was indeed clouded; for the Clones Attacked the Menace with a blast.

The Theater was only half-packed with people; a set-up which provided me and few friends of mine with good seats. Our local Theater ( due to the small size of our town, there is only one Cinema ) is not equipped with the largest screen or best surrounding-system; yet it is good enough to give a great experience - assuming that the movie is good. And yes, Episode II was Good; creating an experience long awaited within the Star Wars -fandom.

One may question how good the film actually is. As an individual installment; to a Star Wars new-comer; it might only reveal great CGI-effects and exciting battle-scenes, but to passionate Fans it is the new Beginning - the Movie which finally starts to set up the Prequel Trilogy, creating an Atmosphere worthy of the beloved Star Wars -title. I have to disagree with the critics about the performances from the Actors. Hayden Christensen might have been a bit choppy in the beginning; but clearly gained self-confidence and a tighter grip of his role when nearing the middle of the movie. When we get the first out-burst of agony; the first real indicator that the Dark Side is tempting Anakin, Hayden delivers the message perfectly. I actually felt the darkness; I visualized the on-coming storm just by watching the facial expressions made by Christensen - being contrasted menacingly well by John Williams\'s Soundtrack. Ewan McGregor was hauntingly good as Obi-Wan - reminding me of Alec Guinnes; the past / forth-coming Kenobi. He was truly relaxed in his role, delivering the lines given to him more fluently than anyone else. Natalie Portman wasn\'t bad either; and she was beautiful, really beautiful. Samuel L. Jackson was convincingly \'cool\' as Mace Windu; yet he doesn\'t have much screen-time to play around with. Christopher Lee did an amazing job as Count Dooku; almost rivaling his previous baddie-performance as Saruman the White.

Attack of the Clones had no real beginning; nor real ending. It was a sequential scenery of a tell-tale located in a Galaxy Far Far Away - and can only live up to its true greatness when being the link between Episodes I and III. As I said, it is perhaps not the greatest individual Sci/Fi movie of all time, but if you own any knowledge of the Saga - if you have seen all the Episodes - it is a Movie which will leave you amazed, satisfied and enthusiastic. The Prequel Trilogy \'thus far reminds me of a crescendo - and I believe that the Grande Finale; the darkest episode of the whole Saga; will be a killer. Come May of 2005!

I just saw the movie myself.  I have to say I came out a bit disappointed.

Yeah, this may have spoilers in it:

Well, I didn\'t think they advanced far enough into the story.  They spent a lot of time on developing the relationship between Anakin and Amadala, but they didn\'t really get into the events of the Clone Wars all that much.  They only showed that one first battle.  I was kind of unsatisfied with the ending.  I guess I was expecting more to be revealed.

I was also disappointed with Anakin lost so quickly in that light saber fight.  I wish they had made him look stronger there.  Oh well.

Anyway, the scene with Yoda was great.  Overall the movie was good, but I just thought they didn\'t bring it to a good enough ending.  Kinda like Lord of the Rings.  Oh well, at least I know there\'s another one on the way.

I also wished they had done more with Janga Fett.  I like the Fetts, and he just seemed to die too quickly.  He only had one real fighting scene, and that one ended with him running.

There was definitely way too much running in those close up battle scenes.  I just wanted someone to die already!

Ok, spoilers over

Anyway, does anyone know what exactly is supposed to happen in episode III?  Like, how much further down the line is it, and what happens?  I know it will obviously connect this movie to episode 4, but I\'m curious as to how.  Also, does anyone know who it will deal with...like what new bad guy they\'ll cook up for this one?

Well, I would be interested in seening the amount of information a normal movie trailer would give.  No specifics, but a general idea of when it happens and what type of stuff is shown would be nice.

Do you know what I hate? Reviewers that don\'t know what they are talking about. (Not you Joyda) I was looking at the review of Episode 2 by Ebert and Roeper and this dude talks about how he really disliked the movie and one of the reasons he gave was because Yoda was fighting and using lightsabers. WTF?!?! The other dude(Roeper) said well he is a Jedi so he fights with a jedi weapon. Fatty comes back and says something like, "No, He is a jedi he should use his jedi powers and not a lightsaber" WTF kind of reason is that to not like a movie?

It isn\'t a reason not to watch a movie.  It\'s a reason not to listen to critics.

Did you not say in the other thread that you aren\'t going to see it?  Something about crowds or something.  My old age is playing with my memory.

I stopped reading your review right there. Lord of the Rings ended the way it should have, just a little further than the book. I know we all have opinions and it\'s all subjective....but your merit was lost when you said that. Nothing personal....it\'s just that there\'s some opinions I can be objective with and others I can simply cast aside.
