Time for some Doom3
« Reply #30 on: May 23, 2002, 12:51:39 PM »
Impressive isn\'t even close to words I\'d use to describe DOOMIII. In a game like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, or such.. yeah.. I\'d say impressive. But this is a FPS shooter we\'re talking about.. Ton\'s of onscreen enemies and superfast action.. it\'s just.. well mind blowing. I can\'t wait to play it.

One thing bother\'s me tho. The name... Doom III. How much will it really have in common with the Doom brand? I mean.. Doom\'s simplicity was it\'s elegance. It was simple, fast, furious demon killing fun.. and it still is considered one of the best FPS\'s around to this day. With the amount of graphics that Doom III is pushing, it makes me wonder how much they had to sacrifice (if they had to sacrifice at all) from the gameplay. Will it live up to it\'s predecessors?

Oh.. and I could give a fukk less what platform it\'ll appear on. I\'ll have them all anyhow. :D

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2002-- Id Software(TM) has chosen ATI\'s next generation graphics architecture as the platform for previewing their unbelievably realistic and much anticipated DOOM III(TM) at this year\'s E3 Expo.

Nice.. looks like its time for upgrade.

was going to buy a GF4 4200 for UT2003 and coming games, then I saw DOOM3 and well.... if you want to run that game with sweet frame rate and high detail a gf4 won\'t cut it...
Ordered a cheap Gf3 now, will get a new card when D3 comes out :)

here\'s a qoute from the man himself:

"Our "full impact" platform from the beginning has been targeted at GF3/Xbox level hardware. Slower hardware can disable features, and faster hardware gets higher frame rates and rendering quality. Even at this target, designers need to be more cognizant of performance than they were with Q3, and we expect some licensee to take an even more aggressive performance stance for games shipping in following years."

another one:

"I told everyone that I was going to demonstrate Doom III on the best hardware, and there has been no collusion or kickbacks or anything like that going on. Our objective is the technical merit The new ATI card was clearly superior. I don’t want to ding NVidia for anything because NVidia has done everything they possibly could; but in every test we ran, ATI was faster."

Sounds like an interesting card, it\'s coming this fall I think :)

TechTV, the other night, said that the Xbox wouldn\'t have the same graphical qualities that the PC could deliver for Doom3.

I saw the footage. Amazing. And though it will come to Xbox, don\'t expect the same smooth resolution.

I couldn\'t be arsed to read the whole thread, but wasn\'t Doom III shown @ E3? The Xbox version didn\'t run on full detail graphics wise because of tech difficulties, AFAIR ("as far as I remember", I just made that up ;)). Besides, it would most likely run at 640 x 480 anyway.

Personally I\'ll couple this game with a Matrox Parhelia, I want the uber 2d quality, and it should be an excellent 3d performer aswell. It does have 4 vertex units whereas the gf4 has two. And twice the memory bandwidth of the gf4 4600.

However I\'ll still hold on to see how the initial reviews will be.

No the xbox version wasn\'t shown at E3.
