This "Console War"
« on: June 12, 2002, 12:51:41 PM »
This will be my last post in CD because it is going to be gone tomorrow. My opinion on the Console War is that one will come out a winner. But it doesn\'t matter which one. I was once told by a friend that if you like one console, you\'ll like the rest. All the consoles do have their strong points and their weak points. They all have some good games. Each console has games oriented toward a certain audience. X-Box and PS2 seem to be more aimed toward teenagers and adults. GCN seem to be aimed at kids with some kiddy games but also aiming toward teenagers. I\'ve played each console and think that all of them will succeed and have an impact in gaming forever. I don\'t see what all this fighting is about. Just play games and enjoy them for what they are. I just wanted to get my opinion out before CD is closed.

Games are games, no matter what you play them on.

Best overall console (hardware, games, pads etc) = PS2, sure some may like x box, or its games better, but when it comes down to it, the public have spoken, PS2 is the best overall console

Its a shame the sales don\'t reflect your feelings.

*sniff*

RIP Dreamcast!
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

PS2\'s controllers suck and so do you clowd. Not everything has to be about PS2, each console has great things about it.

and to whoever turned on the smilies, away with you and the smilies! turn them back off!

I wasn\'t joking.

Disjointed D-Pad, digital shoulder buttons, small size, and short, flimsy cords, make DS II controllers a bitch to play with. I much prefer the Controller S to it, although it is better than GC\'s mini-me controller or XBox\'s normal controller.

you ever tried playing a 2D fighter on PS2 controllers? neraly impossible to pull off juggles in SF3 with them (I have a DC controller adaptor and I have tried every console\'s controllers with DC...Saturn is the only controller I will ever use for 2D fighters, although the Controller S\'s D-Pad is the successor to the rocking d-pad of the NiGHTS pad.

how about racing games? Ever feel how you lose realism when going from Analog DC or XBox controls and then moving to digital? It sucks! You lose the precision of gas and brake on PS2, even the much vaunted 200-some odd degrees of pressure the buttons feel, it is a joke compared to analog triggers.

After moving from the NiGHTS pad, it wasn\'t easy adjusting to the Dual Shock, and it never will be, it is too small and does not rest in your hands like Con. , NiGHTS pad, or GC\'s controller.

The sticks placement sucks, too. The only game I can see that would benefit from having the sticks in the middle of the controller is Virtual On: Force (prays), and I haven\'t seen that yet.

and so on. They could\'ve much improved on the Dual Shock for DSII, but chose that familiarity with the much average DS was more worth it.

its not fair to compare analog triggers, ya know

and i find it frickin retarded that the xbox controller has the analog sticks on different levels

any control problem you might be having during fighting games could be due to lack of eye hand coordination, no?

the DS was the perfect everyday controller, why change it much?

should they be like nintendo and bring out gimmicky controllers?

analog triggers are obviously NOT a gimmick (it\'s been on 4 other controllers).

Having them on different levels feels completely natural after beating Halo, you should realize that, since you played the game out, correct?

they could\'ve AT LEAST jointed the d-pad together, but alas, it is my hand-eye coordination that is messing me up, I thought it was the fact that there is NO down-in-the-corner, except killing your thumbs moving them around to hit both "points" of the d-pad at one time to make it do that. It is a shoddily made controller, as far as I can tell, since I have had one go out on me of both DS and DSII variety. The cords are short (I don\'t believe length is a gimmick) and they are very flimsy and thin (strength is not a gimmick, I don\'t think so, at least).

The XBox jewel on the controllers is ugly and useless, but it doesn\'t mess up the fact that the best controller of this generation is the Controller S, superceded in time only by the Saturn NiGHTS pad, the king of all controllers.
