1) No one is complaining that Eminem is white. You seem to have a huge complex with white rappers - not us. I say this, because no matter why someone states they don\'t like his music or style of music, you insist that they don\'t like it because he is white. It simply isn\'t so. I don\'t personally like rap or Eminem, but I don\'t care what race he is. If his style of music does not appeal to me, then it just doesn\'t. Simple, isn\'t it?
2) This Is Annoying. This Is Not Stylish. It Is About As Stylish As Typing In Ebonics. There Is No Sense In It.
3) Everyone in this thread complaining that music genre A sucks and music genre B rules - well, guess what... Its all personal preference and opinion. You may not like rap, but like country. It does not mean country is more meaningful and better style of music. It just means you prefer it. Its like comparing apple and oranges, both are very different and appeal to different people. Get a grip , guys.
3) This whole \'pop is white\' stuff is crap. Where do you get off saying that because someone says "pop" they are reffering to "white"? That is to say there has not been black pop stars, when infact some of the biggest pop stars in history have been....
black . Need examples? Whitney Huston, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Boyz 2 Men, Babyface and the list goes on. So, get over it. Just because you have a complex about a certain race, does not mean anything. Base your posts on fact - not opinions.
4) I could care less if Eminem raps about killing his mother. I could also care less if he is rapping about his life experiences, the way I look at it is like this.. Every generation has had a musical influence that was mostly about shock and constrovery. Jim Morrison, Alice Coopers, Ozzy, Kiss, Marilyn Manson are some good examples, well now we have Eminem. A rock (well, rap) star who gets more popular due to the fact he causes constrovery and attracts the media. I\'m not saying he can\'t rap and he isn\'t talented. I\'m saying that a big part of his popularity is due to the fact he gets the media up and goin\' and a lot of younger kids think it is a big bad sin to listen to him - therefor they must. Once Eminem\'s craze dies down (and it already is) someone else will replace him and the cycle will start back. We\'ll be on some message board debating this whole damn thing again.
Edit [/:b] To further drive this point home, I\'ll bring up Jim Morrison yet again. Quite a few of you are talkin\' about how rap only talks about killing people and how Eminem only talks about killing his mother...Well, I suggest you go pick up the first Doors album titled \'The Doors\' and listen to the song called \'The End\'. I\'ll do a quick quote for you.
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...f**k you
Here you go. A non-rap song, in late sixities , early seventies by a band that most critics and media consider one of the most important bands in rock history.
My point? Don\'t sterotype rap for violent themes when rock has had them for the longest time.
