Might get a Laser Disc player

I am thinking about getting a laser disc player. I\'ve never had one in my life, nor have a viewed a movie on laser disc. I do know that LDs contain extra features like DVDs do. I am a big fan of movies, and I discovered that I can get a good LD player for like $50 on ebay, and I can also get a stack of LD movies for an average price of about $30. Seems like quite an investment for someone that is into movies... Does anyone here have an LD player? Can you tell me about it?

i used to have an LD player about 15 years ago, however I remember nothing about them.  mm will probably give you the best info on this subject, seeing as though he\'s a cinema geek.

I have one. The quality isnt as good as DVD, and its hard to go back. The disc\'s also needs changing sides.

There is no reason to buy one as most LD movies are now available on DVD.

I have seen a movie on LD a while ago when they were the hot new item..I was certainly impressed then, but now, just get a good dvd player. An LD is good to have for someone really into audio just to have. But most audophiles I know dont even use their much if at all. You have to be willing to watch older movies or a tiny selection of current ones. but they are cheap.


Id myself get one if I had the dough to kick around.

Uhm..yes, LD players could have been had 15 years ago. Just like how dvd recorders werent commonly available in the states till last year, didnt mean that one couldnt buy one

If you get a good deal, it might be worth it. The quality is quite nice, but not quite at DVD level.

And some movies are out on LD, but not DVD (Schindler\'s List comes to mind). If I had the cash to spare I might get one.

Great movie, I cant wait till it is released on DVD..if it is anyway.

I have a huge old Sony. I think one of the first. It\'s a nice looking unit with cherry wood sides.It\'s been in my cellar since the first DVD units arrived. I am just about to put it in the trash. BTW, I paid $1,200 for the monster.

Trying to store those lp sized movies was a real pain.

Anyone remember those RCA CED disc players? They were more like record players than anything. I used to sell them at a video store I worked at oh so many years ago.

I\'ve had one for about 10 years.  Quality is fantastic, but now with DVDs they are worthless.  THere are virtually no extras on any of the discs so I don\'t know where you got that from.  Sometimes they put the director\'s narration on one of the analog tracks, but that\'s the extenet of it.

And Racer, LDs have been around for over 20 years.  They use to be in slip cases where you inserted the entire case into the unit and pulled it out.  THe disc stayed in.  I remember a friend of mine\'s parents having one when I was in 9th grade, which was about 17 years ago.

And as far as turning the disc over, most turn automatically, but you still have a good 10 second delay in the middle of the disc.

LD was fantastic before DVDs came out, but there is no reason to buy one now.  Mine is sitting in my closet.

I think that\'s a CED player. If I remember they were called caddys and the movie disc stayed in the caddy until you loaded it into the machine.

Animal I would buy a nice DVD player before purchasing a LD. But if it\'s cheap....

Some new DVD players have LD players in them. In my Bio class, we had one that played Laser Disks (most of the videos we had were LDs), VCDs and DVDs. Try going after one of those. You get more for your money.
