9/12/02 Tekki launch In Japan: Some Impressions Inside!
« on: September 12, 2002, 10:12:49 AM »
On another board some members got Tekki and post some impressions.  Now I\'m thinking of picking it up!

Justin-

I had a quick bash of Tekki in Bic today. Not enough to give decent impressions, but anyway, in short:

The controller is ludicrous. I mean, with the foot pedals and wires, you practically need a dedicated room to play the game. That\'s gotta be commercial suicide in Japan.

Having said that, the game looks awesome. It\'s a hardcore mech fan\'s dream. The visual style is one of the coolest I\'ve seen -- you are IN the mech. Look up, and water droplets form on the screen, refracting the scenery. The image distorts and flickers slightly like real video footage, and the illusion is convincing. It looks like you\'re playing some other game\'s intro cut-scene, not a real time rendered world.

Control, frankly, boggled me. Very few of the millions of buttons seem to actually do anything, and are probably only used once if at all. The stick feels very solid and doesn\'t wobble. Nice. It\'s just a massively hardcore experience. Stomping around the hills, reading the topological map, targetting distant mechs, very slow but game probably gets quite geographically strategic as the game developers.

At least three people at work bought it. And, uh, one of those people doesn\'t have an Xbox (!!).

The game is cool! But it is very overwhelming with all the buttons. I don\'t know what effect all the buttons and the switches have on gameplay, or if you even use half of them during the game. Though it is cool to throw on all five of the tiny switches and hear your mech go bbbbeeEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP like the hard drive from hell warming up. The eject button is also teh r0x0r.

BTW the developer is listed as "Nude Maker" hehe

The game can NOT be played with the normal pad.

BTW there is no force feedback. I just noticed tho, that the buttons LIGHT UP and are analog lights (meaning, they can slowly glow on/off!). It looks totally rad and it reminds you what buttons to press at certain times during the game.

Man this game is cool but I\'m hungry, making rice, brb

I\'ll post more as it comes.  :D

Sales do not equal quality. Who would want to play this game without the controller anyway? That is like playing VO without the Twin Sticks!

I am buying this game when it comes out in America, if we get it in at BB, I wouldn\'t doubt it would be nearly half price!

rediculous

is like thier company said

"hey i know! lets take the lowest selling console and make the highest niche title we can, and well include a astronomically overpriced controller, and we\'ll spend lots of money on packaging it.  BUWHAHAHAHA!"

Not sold here in the states? Last I recall, Capcom announced and commited to bringing it over to the states under the name Steel Battalion.

If so - I\'ll pick it up. I\'d hate to import an Xbox for it...

Altered...

The difference is VO could be played with the regular controller and was more than adequate. The Twin Sticks just made it more fun.
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
