Tsk tsk.... I guess you guys don\'t quite understand the story, after ... 14 years  It\'s all about the energy form that is
life. In Akira the Akira project portrays mankind trying to manipulate that energy (which is in all living things). However
things get skewed and mankind f*cks up again thus a mere
boy named Tetsuo learns he can\'t handle the energy/power
which does not belong to mankind. The movie teaches that this
energy source is something which is NOT to be toyed/experimented with. At the end of the movie Tetsuo loses control, the "manipulated" children and a returning Akira ( who was also a kid in that scientific project) stop the out of control Tetsuo. In that fight most of Neo Tokyo is destroyed/cleansed and Tetsuo transcends into the cosmos as the original energy life form he is. So according to Otomo, all living creatures, including humans are forms of energy, albeit materialised.... which are given just the right amount of power which should not be skewed.
Yes, this is a deep story, but this one is directed brilliantly, unlike that sh1t from MGS2 SOL. Kojima could learn a LOT from Otomo.
Anyway.... I think Hollywood will only f*ck it up, so I think they shouldn\'t even attempt to live action that anime.
