Could be dusty inside, try using a lens cleaner.

i had the same problem wher it said "error" or something in the browse section. i called sony and they told me i had an old version of the ps2 and i had to mail it to them, and they fixed the problem(i dunno if they gave me a new one or if they added a chip). So if the dusting idea doesnt work, then i would call sony. it took about 2 weeks for me to get mine back and 2 weeks from now is the draft for season II. so id say calling sony would be ur lat resort.(if u have to)

if u call them they will pay for it..since it is basically their mistake. but when i called them they asked what the code was, and since mine didnt have an R or some letter they could tell it was an older version and they said to mail it to the adress and that they would pay for the shipping.

Clowd, it isnt suppose to read them.

Pop them in, let them spin, it should say disk read error, its a blank disk. Nothing is even on it. Try it about 10 times, then try a game, if it doesn work, get a can of air and blow it inside the ps2.

Try it alot of times, before opening it. Its risky, but it worked for me. I recommend not doing it though.

honestly i dont know. i bought my ps2 in may 2001 and had the problems in august 2002(i remember asking about it here). How long is the warranty? Calling them u can be for sure though, cuz they answered all my questions and were pretty cool about it. except the guy was trying really hard to get a big "THANK YOU" outta me like he was doing me a favor, lol. of corse i thanked him but the way he was talking was pretty funny. anyway, back on track, i went to sony.com, found their ps2 help number, called and asked and he walked through the steps with me to see what was wrong.

Kimahri, viper.

I had this problem, look above. Also, try it vertical, or horizontal. It can make it work. Mine only plays blue disks vertical, and white disks horizontal. Pisses me off, but it plays fine.

Its slowly degraded.  At first moving the PS2 around or setting it vertical would make it work after a few trys,  but now its completly stopped reading cds altogether,  even brandnew ones.  and it wont read the cd lens cleaner.  if only there was a lens cleaner that was dvd

BTW,  I got my PS2 on launch,  so yeah it was one of the first

Try a CD cleaner.. If that does not work and if you still have your warranty (I got 2 years, but I think that’s standard here on all electronics), call Sony and let them fix it for free..

If not, there is a screw on the motherboard that needs to be adjusted.. But you\'ll need a oscilloscope otherwise its very risky.

I had the same problem. It\'s probably a dusty lense. Use a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol on it and it should be fine, like mine ;)
