28 Days Later...
« on: June 27, 2003, 08:03:59 PM »
Alright guy\'s, skip \'The Hulk\', \'Charlie\'s Angel\'s and all those other crap-tacular summer movie\'s. Go watch Danny Boyle\'s (director of Trainspotting) newest masterpiece a zombie / sci-fi film named "28 Days Later". I just got back from watching it and I must say this is what the horror genre needed. It doesn\'t need crap movie\'s like \'The Ring\' (Credit given: RingU is good) or \'Darkness Falls\'. It needs intelligent, shock based movie\'s like \'28 Days Later\'.

Here is Ebert\'s review.

I have to say I agree with him a hundred percent...

And for those with region free DVD players - go to HkFlix.com or ExploitedCinema.com and pick up the already out UK Double Disc DVD . Yes, this great movie is already out on DVD in the UK.

I am a huge romero film, and even though it does not fall into the same kind of vein. It will fill familiar to those that enjoy zombie flicks, with enough new stuff to make quite possible the movie to watch this summer.

Is it similar is Resident Evil (the Zombie concept).

I love these kinda movies, and don\'t say bad stuff about the ring, I thought it was great, the jap one is better though.

Has anyone seen Braindead?

Now that is a good zombie hack n slash movie, directed by Peter Jackson.

I have wanted to see this, but had no idea it was out on DVD already in the UK, thanks for the links LIC, but how do you know if your DVD player is region free?

It is nothing like Resident Evil, Resident Evil cannot even be considered a horror film, it\'s an action film. This one is pure horror.

And Racer, The Ring was terrible. RingU was good, but The Ring was downright terrible.

Giga, go to VCDHELP.com, look under "DVD Hacks" and for your DVD player / Model number, a lot of players you can punch a code into and make it region free. If not, you can buy a region free player rather cheap. That\'s what I did yesterday.

P.S  - Braindead is also known as Dead Alive and once again it cannot really be considered a true horror film, unlike 28 Days Later.

No Problem. I wish my Pioneer had a multi-region hack, but it doesn\'t, so I was forced to buy a Cyberhome 402S and use a multi-region hack on it.

No problem.  I personally believe making games and DVD\'s regional is complete bullshit.

You may not realize it, but we are gettin\' screwed on the DVD end in a lot of ways. I can think of a lot of movies, such as \'Brotherhood of The Wolf\', \'The Pianist\' that got THREE DISC treatments in other countries. .. Another one is \'Resident Evil\' which got a two disc treatment ... Romero\'s \'Dawn of the Dead\' and the list goes on.. Not to mention a lot of uncut movies, such as Friday the 13th are out oversea\'s, yet us American\'s are screwed over.

I just saw "28 Days Later."  I agree it was a very good and rewarding horror film.  I have to say that it\'s not really groundbreaking in any way; it fits neatly into the "post apocalyptic zombie" sub genre.  I would say it\'s very much like the BBC 1981 remake of "Day of the Triffids" in case you\'ve ever seen that.  In any event, I enjoyed it.

I will agree that it does not break ground, but it does go a step forward in the right direction. Almost all recent horror movie\'s have lost focus on what is scary and what is needed in a horror movie. Danny Boyle had the idea.

I agree... one more question if I set my region to 0 does that mean it will play any region?
