Did you know?
« on: July 13, 2003, 04:28:32 AM »
I\'m in a phase where I read a lot. I\'ve read 5 books these past two days... well, right now I\'m reading a book about the human brain.

I just read this tidbit and thought it was so amazing that I\'d share it with you. Perhaps you already knew, perhaps you didn\'t.

Since the topic as such is useless when you\'ve read what I wanted to say, I\'m gonna delete it in a day of two. Yeah, I just love deleting my own threads. ;)

Anyway, here it is. Did you know that there are more possible connections between the cells in one human brain than there are atoms in the entire universe? That\'s a staggering high amount...

That concludes the useless knowledge for today.

^^

Not to stray from the subject of book reading, but it is pricisely what you just said about the human brain that makes my faith in creation rather than evolution so much stronger. I find it virtually impossible to think that something so incredibly complex, something so incredibly unique could just some how evolve over time from nothing. Even Darwin had qualms about believing his own theories because of just how complex the human eye and brain are.

Anyway, jump over my pathetic post if you think im stupid.

It is correct Adan. And in the nine months to you\'re born the brain produces 100,000,000,000 nervecells.

Racer, actually the brain has evolved over 500 million years. In the beginning it was quite simple (as seen in Crocodiles and the like). In the beginning there was just the reticular activation system (direct translation :p). Then 250 million years later the limbiesqe system was added (again, direct translation - dunno the correct English terms). 200 million years ago a new structure - the \'bigbrain / (neo-) cortex\' was added (the grey braincells).

And so on. So I put my faith in evolution. :)

Another question - had God created us - would be -> why make us so complicated? I mean, with his abilities he could just make us solid inside. Why make us prone to diseases, weaknesses etc?

Because if we were all immune to illness etc then the world would be massively over populated.

Still doesn\'t make the question any less valid. God - the almighty - surely would have the ability to do something about that if he wanted.

Think of all the billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions upon billions of things "God" would have to do/create at once (well, seven days then ;)). It\'s easier for me personally to accept, that it was all due to evolution. Of course the basics, the corner stones so to speak, would have to be there in the beginning. But then it could evolve and be more and more advanced during billions of years.

I don\'t understand, how if everything in this entire universe came from a single cell, that the mutations would do different things. Like X into XY, then XY changes to XZ, so you know have both XY and XZ cells, that these two different cells could go into different things cosidering they are both from X. Your not adding anything else, just X.

You talk about God as being bound by physicalities. He is not bound by time. Sure, the Bible says it took 6 days to create everything, but that is in Earth time. God created time. Just because he is God doesn\'t mean he just does it all at once. He is a craftsman, and took his time to perfect what he was creating.

I dunno, this whole billions years thing seems so far fetched its crazy. The Earth is not that old, and either is this universe.

Thats because everything is a part of God.Not just humans.

Besides humans can develop the ability to self heal themselves or even others.
Chi Kung masters are the best examples.

If you were a game designer Sam, would you make your main character immune to all enemies ?  since you are the creator, why would you care to make it immune, just dont create anything that could arms in anyway your main character ?

If god truely exist, he isnt the Holy pure light everyone think he is.
can\'t see why not!

If you are a Superman how are you going to know if you are mentally strong? How would you know if you have the barins to protect yourself? Its like an overprotective child.Doesnt know the world, doesnt know any danger, doesnt know anything. Its weak mentally and spiritually.
Negativity and Positivity both are needed for a human to become perfect.

Well, I think you guys misunderstood what I was trying to say.

He could make us solid and simple and still able to catch diseases etc. The diseases part was not my point, it was just something that seemed logical.

The universe is not billions of years old? When I say the basics should evolve over billions of years, I\'m talking about something like The Big Bang... not saying that it\'s the one and only answer - the truth - but I do believe everything evolved over millions and billions of years.

But Racer, how old would you estimate the universe, the earth and the human race to be?

Chi Kung masters are the best examples.

When a Chi Kung master can help you to cure a terminal cancer, an AIDS patient or even the hungry in Africa, please, tell me.

PD: I practice Chi Kung-.
