My controllers work fine but my PS2 is crap. I\'m gonna open it to adjust the voltage.

Would something like export strength vodka be OK for cleaning?

Also, my PS2 doesn\'t read most discs (anything coloured), could that be a voltage problem? I\'m willing to rip its guts out now I\'ve got an xBox and morrowind to survive on for a bit!

Meanire: Really strong? ;P
Yeah maybe, just let it dry first before you plug it in :)

Just wipe the rubber thingys under the buttons and that plastic curcuit which they connect to, nothing else.

I just ran into another episode of "PS2 Twilight Zone" a couple of days ago... It was late at night, I couldn\'t get any sleep and decided to pop in Dynasty Warriors 2 for some brain-numbing thumb-thumping booty-kickin\'. But oh the horror! The disc seemed to load up fine, but the PS2 ended up in AudioCD mode, and repeatedly told me that I was inserting a music CD with only one audio track available (number 2). I rebooted a couple of times and byebye worries, but it was weird anyways...

Mine once told me that my Action Replay CD was not a PS2 format, so I got that cool red-screen-of-death screen.  :)

Just out of curiosity, how many of you hear loud noise when loading games CD? I\'ve one or two disc that gives a loud noise when loading while the others doesn\'t. I\'ll rather not play those games than to *possibly* kill my PS2!

Yep, CD games are louder (as they spin faster?), some more than others (this might be caused by not all CDs being perfectly shaped, as they spin fast some vibrations may occur.). My SSX CD sounds really bad, while you can hardly hear Tekken Tag\'s CD.

I dont think you should be afraid that they\'ll kill the system. Its built to read both CD and DVD discs.

I hear the same loud noices when I put a game CD in my CD-Drive on my PC..

Is that like a loud(ish) \'click\' sound from the CD tray?

If so, mine was doing that quite badly for a bit before it all went wrong.

:(

No its more like "brrrmmm" a hum:ing sound.

When you hear a lot of clicking I think that’s due to the laser lens not being able to focus properly.

Aaaah, any quick and easy way to fix that or is it buggered?

I\'m willing to open her up and get busy with a screwdriver set if needs be.

I think you need to adjust a screw.. But you\'ll need a oscilloscope (sp?) to be able to adjust it properly. :(

You could do it the bild way but its very risky.
I think there is a guide somewhere you could follow.

Here\'s the guide if you have a oscillioscope.
