Hendrix is good but not the best.

17 Jack White of the White Stripes

He is decent- but the 17th no! more like the 80th. Not that good.

Steve Vai should be up their too.
Think for yourself. Question authority.

Here are the changes I would make:

Remove:

11Kirk Hammett of Metallica
13 Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead
16 Johnny Ramone of the Ramones
17 Jack White of the White Stripes
18 John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers
28 Stephen Stills
29 Ron Asheton of the Stooges
48 Joe Perry of Aerosmith
56 Tom Verlaine of Television
61 Ike Turner
62 Zoot Horn Rollo of the Magic Band
72 Joni Mitchell
73 Trey Anastasio of Phish
75 Adam Jones of Tool
89 D. Boon of the Minutemen
92 & 93 Fred "Sonic" Smith, Wayne Kramer of the MC5
95 Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine

And probably several others.  I don\'t care... I don\'t want to see any punk rockers on this list.  Banging the shit out of three chords does not qualify you for a list of 100 Greatest Guitarists.  Besides, punks always distained the kind of music created by most of the other musicians on the list.  ALSO ... no goddamn jam bands like The Grateful Dead or Phish. Your ability as a guitar player will not be recognized until you learn to edit yourself.

Add:

Andres Segovia  !!!!
Chet Atkins  !!!!
Doc Watson  !!!!
Gary Moore
Joe Walsh
Eric Johnson
Billy Gibbons of ZZ Topp
Adrian Belew of King Crimson
Terry Kath of Chicago
Leo Kottke
Steve Vai
Larry Carlton
Joe Satriani
Junior Brown
Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac
George Benson
Brian Setzer
Alex Lifeson of Rush
Elliott Randall of The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan
Pat Metheny
Andy Summers of the Police
Steve Morse of the Dixie Dregs
Alvin Lee of Ten Years After

---------

BTW Gman:  I\'m number 102.  We should jam some time!  :)

And i actually agree with Vivi on this one... not the fact that every guitarist thinks that... but Jimi Hendrix is not the greatest guitarist of all time... he made the top becuase he was a pioneer of his genre... but that has nothing to do with his guitar skills.

Are you saying Angus is :ghey: ????  WTF????  :p

BTW, being a pioneer is part of what made Hendrix great.  He created what everyone else built on.  It\'s easier to build from the master\'s blueprint than it is to start from scratch.  That\'s why he is the greatest.  Andres Segovia is no.2.  :)

Adam Jones should have been way higher, I also would have added Kerry King on the list, because damn that guy is fast.

Personally I like Santana and Garcia alot. There are so many others I believe it is just a matter of preference. And perhaps
of age.

Yer kidding, right?

For this list, it seems guitarists need to have some noteriety or longevity.  Just being an amazing guitar player is not good enough.  If this were just about technical ability, I would have nominated my guitar god, Buckethead... but he doesn\'t have the noteriety.

That\'s why I don\'t agree with listing any of these young metal guitarists like Kirk Hammett or Adam Jones.  I like them, but they just haven\'t had the career longevity to put them on the same list as the legends.  Besides, I don\'t see how you can put a young metal guitarist on the list, but then ignore the generation prior to his that inpired him.  I\'ve heard that Hammett is a Michael Schenker freak, and he can play any UFO song ever recorded, yet Schenker is not on the list?  What about Gary Moore and Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden, and Phil Campbell from Motorhead?

Remember what decade metal was born in?
