Interesting article about the latest threats.

Got me thinking, will we ever go below yellow again in our lifetime?

Can I have some proof that the government is raising the alert level just to make us cower in fear?

Cripes! I can hear it now, the US government keeps the alert level at low and then there is a big terrorist attack followed by all the whiners coming out of the woodwork to complain that there is some sort of cover-up. I don\'t buy it.

As to the original questions, I don\'t think so.

The problem with the alerts is that after I heard the status the first 100 times. It started carrying alot less weight. At this point it could go red, and I would not care.

It\'s a political ploy simply. They want you to be scared.

It\'s a diversion also. Something that will divert our attention. The higher the "threat" is than the better Bush looks when blowing money into places other than what truly matters. He\'s just marketing his product with these raised alerts. The economy, healthcare, just serious problems he\'s dodging all the time.

But no. The US must spend billions on defending freedom from outside terrorists. I say outside terrorists, because the definition of a terrorist isn\'t someone wearing a diper on their head and carrying an AK-47 like the US tries to make you believe. Little are they concerned with the terrorists inside their own country, they\'re own people.

The terror alert level isn\'t really for the average citizen.  It\'s esentially for manpower, operations, and budgeting.  It\'s not like I am going to look at the dude at the street corner any differently from one day to the next because of the alert level.

I think the alert level is a load of crap. But I guess it does keep people a little aware that there are threats. Also, it gives liability if we are attacked. The government could say "can\'t complain, we had the alert." That and maybe discourage possible terrorists knowing that now people are alert. But then again, its also an image thing.

It might also alert the terrorist that we are aware of their possible plans.

I think that is what it is.  We throw a high alert which makes the terrorists think we know what is up.  This may deter them from doing it.

its funny how a stupid makeshift rainbow scares people. it scared me too, until i looked at the original terrorist threat.
i personally think that we wont be attacked by terrorists anytime soon, and when i say anytime soon, i mean for probably another 20-30 years. its all fear based to control us into thinking another way. i hate to sound all conspiracy-artist like this but its true. there really is no reason for people to be scared over terrorism towards the us, because if it is happening, its going to happen where our interests are, irsael, for one.
as a wise friend of mine once said, its not what you do that builds character, what you do reveals it.

For the most part, I do not think Americans are afraid of an attack in their daily life.

I think it\'s shit. If they wanna attack you or another country, be sure they won\'t stare at the alert light.

The alert is there as an indication to be more aware of what\'s going on. Will most people forget about it after awhile? Sure. Will there be attempts no matter what level? Of course.

To say that it is some wide conspiracy to keep the population frightened sounds like a bad X-Files plot.

I agree, life isn\'t a conspiracy theory, the government is compromised of regular people like you and I.

I live on a military base and we have threat conditions, and it goes from: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta.

Alpha is a standard level, where a threat is possible.

Bravo is heightened, and there is a significant threat.

Charlie is serious and there\'s intelligence that something will happen.

Delta is something happened, and we\'re screwed.

So yeah, we\'ve been at Bravo for the last two and a half years, and it will probably be like that forever.
