what\'s your favorite cartoon? past-present
« on: January 09, 2004, 08:32:48 PM »
this is for some of the older cats in here. remember growin up how you would be excited almost as christmas day for that saturday morning lineup? damn not anymore,.only cartoons i watch now would be mature anime. i mean if you have kids then cartoon network, but i\'ll try to come up with some favorites and some old classics some of the old heads might remember.

 classics i remember are:

 underdog- super-powred mutt

g-force- i forget some type of super powred humans (anime)

 star-blazers- sci-sf space anime

mighty mouse-super powred mouse (i hated this one this mouse never lost a battle)

hanna-barbara world of super heroes- for some reason the fantastic four was part of this

thundarr the barbarian- heh i liked how in the beginning it showed the moon being split in half by a meteor!

fat albert- one of the most classic toons ava who could forget that cat that talked like this..haybu fatbuh albuht? :D

he-man - not that old but i\'ll throw em in there

k i\'m sure there\'s more but here\'s my fav\'s

transformers-the first series this was the only generation that was worth watching classic battles between megatron & prime. And lets not forget the movie. there was also one episode that i\'am still tryin to get "call of all primitives"... cannot get into that crap that is armada..total bs (artwork is ok tho.)

x-men(fox),spiderman(old one from the 60\'s & recent),justice league, spawn(this was actually pretty good) that\'s it i\'m running out of room ;)
knowledge, wisdom & understanding..these are the basic fundamentals of life

if you can\'t amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t....

back in the day it was all about the Ninja Turtles.  Now my list goes a little something like this;
1.  Family Guy - Comedy, thy name is Seth Macfarland!
2.  Simpsons - great until they lost all their writers
3.  South Park - Always great social satire, and with up to date humor.
4.  Kid Notorious - I\'m love\'n Robert Evans
5.  King of the Hill - I did and I don\'t know why
6.  Futurama - It grew on me....and got canceled

  • Thundercats - That show was the greatest. I understand they are wanting to do a live action / CG movie...Bad idea.
  • Batman: The Animated Series - The greatest cartoon series ever. This includes any revision of the show, down to the young Robin / Tim Drake . This show had it all. It had the fun, the original scripts. The dark adult version of Batman..It had it all. Kevin Conroy is Batman and Bruce Timm brought the universe to life along anything before .
  • Batman Beyond - Short lived, but great concept.
  • SuperFriends - Cheesey and fun.
  • He-Man - Old and new. Great show.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Trutles - Old show was great. New one is so-so.
  • Ghostbusters - The original cartoon rocked.
  • Beavis and Butthead - Greatest adult / teen comedy. All time favorite show.
  • King of the Hill - Not quite Beavis and Butthead quality, but just further proof Mike Judge is the man.

Thundarr The Barbarian

What was cool about Thundarr was that he was such a dimwit.  It was obvious that he had no idea what he was doing, and the only reason he was successful in anything was because he had that light sword.  Ookla was even dumber, if that\'s possible.  Ariel was a genius by comparison, so I could never figure out why she stuck around with these two losers.  Then it became obvious... Thundarr was one of the few non-mutant men left, and she needed him for the booty call!  :)

Does this count anime also? If so, I have to add  \'Trigun\' and \'Cowboy Bebop\' as excellent series.

The Saban \'X-men\' series did not hold enough nearly as well as I had hoped. I watched some of the episodes on DVD recently and it shattered some good childhood memories.

Same with the 90\'s Spider-man. While it was good, it didn\'t hold up so well, as opposed to \'Batman: The Animated Series\' which is just as good today, as it was ten years ago.

i thought they did a good job with the x-men. y\'know sometimes they would try to go the comic route with phoenix saga and such. Now batman caught me totally off-guard. when i first saw it i was like ..this s**t is gonna be wack, but low and behold they did everything right with the character ..atmosphere & dark theme...the way batman was supposed to be done...not like that lame one from the superfriends..even tho he was classic with robin & his "holy whatever" batman:)

I am not saying they did not do a good job, just that the animation and stories aged more than I had imagined. Where as the Batman series tried to take a more adult approach in the animation and stories, which has helped it\'s life span  a lot.

Transformer is another great series, but with the DVD seasons coming out, I\'ve realized they also have not aged well. Infact, I have continued to put off buying \'Transformers: Season 3 : Part 1\' just because I don\'t feel like sitting down for another marathon of \'Transformers\'.

Yes, Batman: The Animated Series is the best comic-based cartoon to date. No doubt about it.

I also like Ren & Stimpy, The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Dexter\'s Laboratory, South Park, Oddities, Looney Tunes, Freakazoid*, Rugrats**, Batman: The Animated Series and any variation, Batman Beyond, The Real Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Doug, Welcome to Eltingville, and that\'s in no particular order.

I also like X-Men and Samurai Jack, occasionally. Oh wait, I forgot anime TV shows!

All variations of Dragon Ball (yes, they\'re idiotic but sometimes entertaining) and Tenchi Muyo.

Disney\'s Duck Tales, too. Forgot about that.

* underrated
