That\'s the funniest thing I\'ve heard all week.

Ahm Fastson is right. Most people arent risking to mod their PS2s since problems with the console are more common.
XBOX doesnt present problems as often as PS2.Not to mention you pay for less and you get more from modding an XBOX(unlike modding a PS2).
Also you cant imagine how many people bought an XBOX instead of PS2 here in Cyprus because it\'s easier to  mod and copy games on its hard drive.
Picture the difference "I buy a PS2 for its games"/"I buy an XBOX for cheaper copy games"
I believe thats also what happens in other countires as well. Not everyone thinks paying $40 for a console game is a serious act.Especially parents that buy a console for his 10 year old son.

Risking your PS2? I\'ve seen it been done multiple times without any problems...
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

There has been some discussions about how big the pirating on the Xbox really is, and this article confirmed that its pretty big.

Kurt Angle: I heard about those emus.. One GC game (Bust a Move 3000) can be played at full speed. The rest run at about 1-2 fps.

Xbox Emulators have gone the furthest, some games can run at ~10fps.

PS2 emulators has just got the browser going, some games work up till the title screen.

Yeah, great post there. A new\'s article confirmed that it was "big". Give me a break. It\'s just another slow new\'s day so some dumb \'net journalist (two words that should never go in the same sentence) rehashed old ground with a story about pirating and how it is hurting the industry or a certain given company.

And of course the emulators run better for the Xbox - it\'s a friggin\' PC in a black box for cryin\' out loud. A lot like the DC was, with Windows CE and the easy development enviroment.

Think people, think. It only hurt\'s the first time.

;)

Net journo? Dagens Industri is a daily business newspaper, and a creditable one at that.

This is the first solid proof of how widespread Xbox pirating is in the Nordic countries (soon it might even surpass the PSX as the modscene king! Infact, it might already have.).
Its just a fricking news article.

Yes there are certain risks with moding a PS2.
I talked to a friend who had his PS2 moded, and the guy who installed the mod warned my friend of the risks.. for example, older PS2s with the dodgy DVD/CD drive will ware out faster when reading burned games of poor quality.

IIRC this was a problem with the Dreamcast too?

I\'m sure it exists, but it is nowhere as large as the other two consoles due to the mini-disc format

Really?
Point me in the general direction where the mini-disc format has been raped as much as the other two consoles. It\'s not nearly as easy. Is it perfect? No. Is it as rampant as the other two consoles? No.

i suggest you go research how the GC is pirated

how can you compare it against consoles that have sold exponentially more?

it\'s like saying game gear piracy is relatively low compared to gameboy piracy

remember sega saying that gdroms were the end of piracy?

No, he\'s right. Believe me, the GC is a complete bitch to mod and get games for that are pirated. The discs are more expensive, the mods are expensive, you might as well just buy the original game.

XBox can be modded so that you can play games on the HD for far less than $20. From then on, you don\'t even need to buy copied games, you just burn them to your HD.

Well being a college punk I can tell you one thing. A guy in my dorm has a gamecube and he has the region free chip on it. But moding that thing is a bitch he says.

BIOS chip in the Gamecube console is built directly into the Gamecube\'s CPU.

And everyone in the dorm who has an xbox has a moded xbox.
And I have already said I have one. And the only reason I have one is because i felt xbox was not worth the money and I am trying to recoop my loses.

But that gamecube seems to be a bitch and not worth the trouble of moding. And as for ps2 there a few moded ps2\'s around here and I have heard they can cause problems with ps2. I am sure it\'s not much. But I value my ps2 way too much too crack it open and my ps2 is 3 years old.

And sony tends to make very cheap console. I had 3 ps1\'s and I have the luxury of not having my ps2  completely breakdown but just give me a few disk errors time to time. And the browser screw up.
