American Idol fans racist?

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- British rock star Elton John, a guest judge this month on the U.S. talent hunt TV series "American Idol," said on Tuesday that he found the voting by the national viewing audience "incredibly racist."

John, who heard the wannabe pop stars perform his songs during an appearance on the Fox TV show, added his voice to a chorus of dissent that followed last week\'s shock exit of black vocalist Jennifer Hudson, considered one of the top talents among those vying for a recording contract.

"The three people I was really impressed with, and they just happened to be black, young female singers, and they all seem to be landing in the bottom three," said John, commenting on the tally in which the lowest vote-getter is eliminated.

"They have great voices. The fact that they\'re constantly in the bottom three -- and I don\'t want to set myself up here -- but I find it incredibly racist," John said at a news conference promoting his Radio City Music Hall concert backed by an orchestra of students from London\'s Royal Academy of Music and The Juilliard School of New York.

The show often gets more than 20 million people voting.

The other two singers grouped in the bottom three of the seven remaining "American Idol" finalists last week were La Toya London and Fantasia Barrino.

The results moved show host Ryan Seacrest to remind viewers that the series was a talent hunt and not a popularity contest.

"America, don\'t forget you have to vote for the talent," Seacrest said before closing the show. "You cannot let talent like this slip through the cracks."

Fox Television declined to comment.

Ruben Studdard, a black crooner, won the top prize last year.

I don\'t know. I voted for that hot Hawaiian chick that one time. All I know is that all three of the black singers sound alike. I mean do we really need another Beyonce, Ashanti and whomever else? It\'s not that It\'s racist, we\'re just tired of it. And she isn\'t hot to begin with...which probably affects alot of the male votes.

Elton John is such a fag (pun intended) for playing the \'race card\'. This is still a silly contest in my eyes, we\'re not voting for the next president here.

We all know if the bottom three were white, and a white person was then booted, there\'d be no talk.

Of course not because we are not minorities. Just think about it for a second. Being white gets you in more places than visa.

Not sure to call a race card, but it is odd how the 3 best consistently were in the bottom three though.

Thats my overall opinon as well. I do find myself watching AI for the brits assine comments.

I wouldn\'t say its racist. Maybe those girls are the most popular and are just splitting votes.

Today this white girl friend of mine said something incredibly stupid. "You get to go to college because your hispanic" What a bitch. A whiner. I don\'t think she get\'s the concept of the "Hispanic Heritage" grants. This is all about those "Mexican grants" and "Black grants" and how white people are being left behind...Right. First off, all of those "Racist grants" are funded by private companies who just decided to give money to a certain group of people. Why? "Why not white people?!" Because there are those who think that white people still have an advantage. Why?

How many mexican teenagers can say that their parents make lots of money or graduated from high school or went to college and so on?. Not many. I know none of my Hispanic friends have parents like that. I don\'t either. The simple fact is that if you have lived in the US all your life, you had opportunities draining from the sky in contrast to other countries, like Mexico, where opportunities are reserved for those who can afford them.

Blah blah blah reverse racism "if a white person was killed nobody would care ohh no but if they\'re black..." and so on. Shut up already. I kind of see your point, there are times where white people are treated unfairly. But hey, the past never goes away, at least not the white people\'s past. Regardless of how old, new if you marry a black guy or anything of the sort, you will always be branded by your past. You might not admit it, but it will always be there. How long has it been since Affirmative Action? ...20 years maybe?  How long did slavery, mistreatment and all that other junk that went on in the States? Hundreds more and you can\'t even say it has stopped.

sirmystiq..Ask your white female friend if she is aware of the grants that exsist solely for ppl with blonde hair and blue eyes. One of which specifically states the recipient has to be a white female. It\'s one of the many I found when looking for grants a few years ago. Every one type of person has some grant specifically for that type of person. Its a matter of finding them.

@tsina; Some of those damned grants are rediculous, I was looking for some and it pissed me off that if I were an obese crack addict I could have gone through college for free.
