It wouldn\'t make Madden any better.  If EA made a deal with the NFLPA, every other game on the market that wasn\'t made by EA wouldn\'t be able to license the pro atheles meaning that they could not make them look exactly like the real atheles nor would they have the names.  Instead of playing with Brett Favre on the Packers, you would be playing with QB # 4.

I\'m failing to see how that would monopolize the football gaming.

Because believe it or not a sports game will appeal to the teenage crowd because the players names are actually there.  Adding that realistic quality the others dont have.  This will influence sales alot.

I disagree, Madden will sell more because it\'s got better gameplay, not the names.

Madden always has held the upper edge... Where ESPN has focused on extras and add-ons, Madden enhances their game engine.

I\'ve heard the ESPN hype the last three years, and its always the same conclusion, Madden > ESPN.

^^^those add-ons and extras are what make espn a more realistic experience..add to the fact espn\'s gameplay is more realistic and there you have it..after playin espn, madden players look like midgets...

Ill have to agree that Madden always has small stocky players but its not bad by a long shot. Or so im told. I hate football games... well except for blitz :D

Looks-wise Madden looks cartoony compared to ESPN. Look at both games side-to-side. I don\'t know anyone that has seen both running and says otherwise. Anyone that read my posts about ESPN last year knows that I liked it more than Madden but that doesn\'t mean Madden was bad. ESPN just felt like a more realistic game. Audibles based on formation, more plays, better control over defense, and realistic running just made it a great game. The only thing it could not compete with was Madden\'s dynasty mode which IMO is the best dynasty mode in sports.

yea i agree...maddens dynasty mode was top notch..but that really doesn\'t appeal to me. all i ever play anyway is the franchise mode (season)..all the other stuff makin prices for hot dogs & such is just a waste of time imo and are themes you don\'t see in a football game...you DO see nfl primetime on tv you DO see cutscenes of the crowds on tv...it\'s just small touches like that & the play by play is incredible..ten times better than madden..those guys even joke around and go off topic from time to time....but statistically madden does things a little a better but it really doesn\'t matter to me...what i want is gameplay and to me imo espn has it locked...

One thing is certain. When NFL preseason rolls around I will have NCAA, Madden, AND ESPN in my rotation.

That\'s not the point, yea it has great gameplay...but not having actuall players names will be a turnoff..while vise versa having them will be a turn on.  You catch my drift?  Stupid gamers are going to lean towards the game that has the actuall players names.

just think back toward the 16 bit days..turbo graphx 16 had realsports football where genesis had madden..even tho at the time realsports football players where more realistic madden sold more because of the real players it had in it...i for one wouldn\'t wanna play a game with fictional characters...it just takes away from it a bit..tho i did play 10 yard fight when i had a commodore 128 :p

I wouldn\'t, but once you bring in the stupid gamer aspect I see where you\'re coming from.

They really should think about going one step further, and just showing you actual footage from the previous NFL season.

My God! The realism! How did they get that running on the PS2?!?!?!
