FIA Formula One Thread
« on: June 11, 2004, 03:42:43 PM »
I\'m bored at work, so all I feel like doing is reading about the WRC and F1.  Instead of creating new threads for each race, I thought I would make one thread that we can all contribute to.  Perhaps if one of the mods would like to move the older F1 threads into this one, that would be helpful too.

I wasn\'t able to watch any of today\'s Free Practice from the Canadian Grand Prix, but I read the results.  Perhaps I will see a replay later.  My question is: Do you think BAR Honda can figure out what\'s going wrong, and help Takuma Sato finish some races without his engine blowing up again?  I haven\'t heard anyone say this, but it must be terribly embarrasing to retire with an engine failure, AND cause two other retirements due to collisions in the smoke screen caused by YOUR car!  That\'s what happened in Monaco a few weeks ago.

BAR needs both cars to finish in the points if they want to build a respectable lead over Renault and move ahead in the Manufacturer\'s standings.  Why is it that Jenson Button can be having such a great season, while Sato seems cursed?  Is this really the fault of the drivers, or the cars, or some differing setup between the cars?

Does anyone have any details on what changes Honda has made to their engine?  I\'ve heard they are introducing a revision which is supposed to be better, but I guess they are pretty tight lipped about what exactly has changed.

Many other questions have been crossing my mind lately, but I guess I\'ll save them for later.

It\'s a good idea IMO... I\'m surprised with R Schumacher pole position. It is gonna be a funny race :p

Don\'t write Michael off just yet, I am guessing he has a heavier fuel load on board for a longer first stint.

That\'s obvious... some strange strategy will be prepared by Ferrari... its strategies are working great for them this year.

EDIT: Btw, fellow americans, your NTSC tv system sucks... what a shit! The image is blurry as hell... bad colors and slight phantom signal... PAL POWA!!!!

Adan,  I\'m willing to bet the problem is not simply the NTSC standard.  It\'s mostly the heavy amount of video compression Speed Channel uses.  I notice it over here as well.  Some standard definition channels come in amazingly sharp, while others like Speed and OLN are murky and mushy with compression.  They must have a crappy contract for satellite bandwidth.

You may be probably right but NTSC has quite less image quality than PAL.

Schumi is killing the sport.. Nice try though Ralf.

Sato is one brave mofo, he pushes the car to max.. Everything or nothing seems to be his motto. :)

Mechanics say that Sato\'s way of driving is right, it is just bad luck the fact that he has ****ed 4 engines in 4 races :D

Hehe, well his way of driving seems to be working. Some good positions so far.

Poor Räikkönen, I hope he gets transfered to a new team next year.. Show his full potential.

That\'s what happens when you are in a team that hasn\'t spent a cent to improve the last year car. It\'s shameful actually to see how a great team like McClaren-Mercedes is over.

There\'s been talk that Honda has a secret engine development plan which Sato uses the end result, while Button uses the tried and tested power plant. The BAR\'s are shit hot over a short period but in race trim they just lack the consistency.

Both Williams & Toyota\'s disqualified for illegal brake issues  aparently, so JB is promoted to 3rd.

Laso, a drivers style can attribute to car reliablitiy. Jenson is known for being a smooth driver who doesn\'t go at it kamikaze style, so he tends to go untroubled.

Sato is prone to errors, usually spins, this increases the engine temp as there is no air flowing through the radiators.
