Flame War Tour: Volume #1 Gay Rights
« on: July 30, 2004, 08:19:06 PM »
- What is your stance on gay rights?
- Do you think that homosexuals should have the right to get married? (why/why not?)
- Do you think people are born homosexual or is it a learned trait?

1. Im pro-everyone rights.

2. Yes because marriage is part of the government and everyone has equal rights under governement according to the US constitution, despite any traditional or religious rule that divides us into groups of inequality.

3. I think people are born with certain mental traits that allow for the development for an attraction to the same sex, but it may or may not ever be realized.

1) Can do everything except get married.  Marriage was formed for a man and woman to be wed together in holy matromony.  If they want to get recognized by the state as a "couple" I don\'t care, but it\'s weird to see them rewriting religion getting married in a church.  Similar to how the King of England (forget which) changed law to allow divorce and split European Christianity in half.

2) see #1, but to expand.. there are certain advantages a couple gets such as tax breaks so if the government wants to see them as a couple I have no problem with it.

3) learned.

If it is "Holy" then it should have never been tarnished by the states involvement.

So I agree with you, lets have no marriages in government only unions. And then i\'ll be happy.

^^^Yea, one of the main reasons the pilgrims came to America, to separate church from state.  Once you legislate religion the legalities of man make it :ghey:.  But to be honest I bet they never saw this coming in the 1800s-early 1900s.

Henry VIII split England from the Catholic Church.  I agree with THX\'s stance on this.  I also agree our founding fathers never saw this coming.

Its a tricky subject.

1) Depends on what kinds of rights we are talking about but descrimination just because of the fact is wrong IMO.

2) Mmm... On one side, its like who cares, but the fact of the matter is that marriage wasnt meant to be between two people of the same sex. Sure it may seem unfair but you cant just change what has supposedly been ordainded since the begining of time out of nowhere. What gain is so damn important by having themselves married in the first place? Like i said its a little tricky, but im going to have to say no.

3) Yes and no. Chemical imbalances can make it a lot easier for somebody to become gay but in this day and age, a lot of it is learned.

If we never changed the ways of old, we\'d still have slaves working in the fields, and women working in the kitchens.

No shit sherlock. I was talking about the speed at which they think things can be changed. It took how long to end slavery and get womens rights? Hundreds of years.

Either way. Gay rights wont change over night.

1. Homo, hetero, bi, tri, black, white...whatever.  Equal rights for everyone.  There\'s no reason for exceptions.

2. Sure, why not?  Seriously, what\'s the big deal?  religious zealots need not apply.  Really, go away.

3. Not sure.  There are so many theories and none of them have been proven.  I\'m thinking it has something to do with a chemical imbalance or something goin\' in the genetic makeup.

How would one go about learning homosexuality?

From example. As children, ideas can be mixed up and changed around or made into their own, thus possibly promoting some sort of idea like "I get the best of both worlds" (or something like that).

More or less - i agree with you. But learning the concept and taking it on as your own is not as difficult as it may seem. Of course, like we both said, chemical imbalances do play significant roles.

For one you\'re assuming it\'s learned, two you\'re assuming it\'s then a choice.

Well if a tv show already discussed it then case closed ,huh?

Outside of what you\'ve seen on tv or what your friends/family might have told you...how much do you really know about the subject?  Enough to make accusations it seems...mind sharing?

I was being sarcastic about the show, but I suppose homosexuality is really "learned" in prison.
