sigh..  i said older consoles. DC is the only current console that i emulate now.
Simple.
1. start emu
2. Choose image file
3. play game.

and whats more amazing, is that you can choose very quickly and change games faster then cds/carts.

I just find backwards compatibility a useless thing. I barely play older games and if i do, i\'ll just use emulators.

Yeah I know. But I was mainly refering to the previous discussion on how important backwards comaptibility is.

Generally when it comes to choosing between an emulator (or a console without backwards compatibility) and a console with backwards compatibility the consumer will most likely choose the second option.
Even if someone has an emulator, backwards compatibility still sounds like a welcome feature.Having one console and a library of old and new games next to it is a plus and helps sales. But it wont do it in the same degree as previously.

But it sure strengthens the products name.Instead of giving the impression that the previous "product" died and got replaced by another newer one it continues to exist with it

This is generally my opinion on the matter

Off course people generaly will buy consoles over downloading emulators, most of the market probably doesn\'t even know wtf a emulator is.
That goes without saying. You\'ll never see a console being sold with backwards compatibility with a sign saying.  Why get this console to play your old games when u can just download a emulator.
I\'m speaking for a small amount of people that prefer emulators that increase performance over consoles that don\'t.  My attitude towards the whole issue is its just a gimmick that most people probably barely use if at all.
Yet people are acting like if they don\'t included it, they\'re nuts. It would barely impact sales, with the user base being so large for ps2. The name would be enough to sell the system.

Think about it, how many consoles ever had it before ps2?

the whole backwards play thing is overrated. It never was an issue til sony did it with ps2. It\'s too costly and it\'s not needed. It never was an industry norm before so lets not make it one now.

I for one am excited about the wireless pads in X2. I think it will be great if it comes off right.

I\'ll get an Xbox 2 because the first one finally won me over once I dialed up Live.

Backwards compatability is overrated. I\'ve seen it put to use on Game Boy, but for PS2 I\'ve only played one PSOne game, and I never owned a PSOne so there\'s a huge library of games for me to try. I just don\'t.

Maybe I\'m in the minority, but I doubt it.

Uhm... you sure about that one buddy? The only way genesis could ever play master system games is if you had the master system add-on that went on top of the genesis. I used to use it all the time but the genesis could never take master system cartriges straight.
