Sony: Next-gen Playstation in 2005 a possibility
« Reply #30 on: May 14, 2005, 05:07:07 AM »
The more i think about what i want to see, and these trailers and doubts that PS3 can match or up the 360, the more i try to stop thinking about the next gen. There was a point where almost anything would impress me but now im kinda stuck. I believe ive already said what I mean. Why come out with somthing that can already be done on another system?

I dont know why rikku has a problem understanding some of this but let him/her/it get their avatar and book it.

I always thought rikku was a girl anyway :p

jk

Anyway, to get off this depressed tone, The people working on the 360 are gamers basically and have this very attractive sales pitch in a sense. They are really trying to sell you on the whole idea behind the 360 which is a good strategy. The thing for me is that they seem a tad too excited, though I know thats their job (or perhaps its because they built the thing).

When is E3 again? And how do you even get in? I have always wondered that.

alotta ppl subconsciously prepare for PS3 to not live up to their own hype like the case with PS2 was.

^^^That\'s what I\'m referring to.

It\'s not so much of your hopes that it\'s better, but that it seems you\'re ready with some kind of measuring stick to stack against the competition.  Playstation 3 is coming, and from all indications it\'s going to kick some serious behind.  Excited?  Seems like some people are more anxious than anything, and I can\'t help but be amused by your state of anticipation.  These are video game consoles afterall.

Xbox360\'s specs look like more off the shelf with the added part of XNA software to get alot of performance out of it.

Compared to the "exotic" architecture of the cell I suppose you could say that.  It\'s certainly more in line with where the computer industry is progressing towards.  But as its\' own assessment that\'s inaccurate to say the least.  The GPU was custom built for the Xbox 360, and it will be at least a year before you see a comparable ATi offering available for the PC.

Imo the Xbox360 compaign is very well done by MS. Allard & team show a real human side to Xbox360 gaming and the future Live community on it.

It looks very sincere and it\'s about next gen \'right here, right now\' with a positive vibe to it. Why do i say \'positive vibe\' ?

Becuz MS could have done the campaign \'arrogant\' style, but they didn\'t and that\'s commendable.

For me and many ppl, PS3 is still vaporware when it comes to exact specs and performance. Yeah, I read the tech articles with all the suposedly specs and how it probably works concerning cpu architecture.

Yet, I\'m the kind of person who\'s most curious about the \'not yet revealed\' ; which are the exact numbers.

We know it\'s more powerful than the Xbox 360 and you already have those specs.  You can begin there, and, imo, it\'s a really good starting point.

I am like knotter. I am curious too. I have not seen anything official from sony. And nothing concrete has been leaked.

Until something pops I am optimistic

I love the numbers game... but who cares which is more powerful as long as the games are fun.

Ok, it\'s like this :

The discussion about what games are fun/good is mostly linked to discussion about which game developers you like.

Since most developers will make games
for all platforms anyway, the discussion
about technical performance is valid.

The exception being the first party developers who usually account for the top tier titles of any console.

That\'s not the point.  If you want to play Zelda you\'re going to need the next-gen Nintendo system, and any reference to a system other than Nintendo\'s is pointless.

Still not the point.

What would Wind Waker have benefited from if it had been on the Xbox?  Can you specifically point something out that would have made the game more enjoyable than it already was just from having been on better hardware?  No?  And there\'s no point in speculating on it either.

When I play a Playstation 2 game like Jak & Daxter I\'m enjoying it because of what Naughty Dog did, and I\'m not resenting it thinking what could have been on more powerful hardware.  In all honestly Jak 3 has been my favorite game of this generation so far, and that\'s because it\'s pretty in respect to the PS2 but more importantly it was loads of fun.

Being the PS2 fan I presume you are I thought you\'d understand.
