Holy Shit! Nintendo Revolution - FULL UNVEILING: 16th Sept
« on: August 26, 2005, 01:44:17 AM »
The site is a little iffy but:

http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=9080

I\'m a little excited. I\'m really really curious why developers who\'ve seen a preview of it, time and again, end up giving good quotes for it. And its nice to know that I might finally be able to know what it really is. Speculation begins now:

I think it\'ll have an analog stick on both sides, d-pad below the right analog stick, touch screen in the middle aaannd the the thing can exert some tiliting force thanks to the gyroscope. AAANND I remember my dad used to quickly raise the NES controller when he wanted mario to jump even though he knew the movement had absolutley no effect on anything. Maybe the Revolution\'s controller will have a little accelerometer and detect its own movements which will then be used as an input parameter.

It\'ll be fun to see what the Revolution really is and whether or not it\'ll be a ... revolution. :sconf:

I think it\'ll either disappoint greatly or be a big pleasent surprise. Fun times indeed.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!

Doubt I\'ll be hugely disappointed simply because Nintendo sucks at hyping stuff up. :)  Not looking forward to that much with the Revolution.

I agree a 110%. If Nintendo done this, it would gurantee sales and establish them in the "next generation" (if you even want to call it that!) early on.

That could totally be a possibility. They\'ve been living the pricing thing for years now and they\'ve been working on a Mario game for years as well. Mario 128 and maybe another title, as well.

Nintendo has also been experimenting more with pack-in games again lately. Metroid, SSB:M.

Nintendo might really come out swinging here.

We\'ll see.

The only aspect of this unveiling that excites me is to finally get a glimpse at there new said to be revolutionary controller.  Nintendo is known to be a true innovator when it comes to designing a game pad as we used to call them back in the day.

Hopefully it\'s not going to disappoint like the Cube\'s controller.

People have predicted such off-the-wall thing that when it turns out to be a normal controller with one or two new features (tilt-sensor, small touchscreen) that it might seem underwhelming.

But that\'s what I\'m hoping for. Something simple and standard with a couple cool new things to try out.

I tend to agree. Fact is, if anything hurts Nintendo at this point, it will be simlpy be the name...Revolution. It gives people wild idea\'s and if it is just a minor step up, people are goin\' to be dissapointed. Personally, I hope to see some sort of innovation like the SNES controller and the N64 controller. Both defined and refined gaming controllers.

As far as a pack in game, it\'d be a great idea, but I doubt it happens. Oh and speakin\' of Mario 128, what\'s the latest on that title? It\'s been in development hell since pre-launch.

I\'ve been hearing two things. Gyroscopic movement/feedback and trackball with force feedback. Nothing TOO out of this world but somewhat revolutionary nonetheless.

My main worry is that the controller does eventually get revealed and the big revolution is another "digital click" on the shoulder buttons. That was the worst innovation ever.

Developers are saying that the Revolution is extremely easy to devlop for and that could be a big plus for them. Especially since developers aren\'t actually enjoying devloping for the multi core processors of the PS3 and Xbox 360. They won\'t regain the top position but I think they will be a definate "player" this generation.

Yeah have a launch would be classic Nintendo, possibly bringing back everyone who ever bought a SNES or NES and were engrossed with those Mario games(and who didn\'t like them?). Smash Bros would be another decent launch title if Mario isn\'t ready. Huge leap from the n64 to the GameCube version. Definitely one of the top 5 or 3 best game the system has.

I wouldn\'t doubt the controller is motion censored. I think there\'s a GBA or DS game using that technology already.
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

If Smash Brothers is a launch title I\'m getting a revolution at launch. I didn\'t buy a Gamecube until SSB:M came out and I still play it to this day. One of the best party games EVER. Right up there with Goldeneye, Madden, and WCW vs NWO Revenge.

There are a few tilt \'n\' control games for the GBA. I\'m not sure how it will translate into every day gaming use tho\'. Much like the touchscreen for the GB DS, it mostly translates into a gimmick for lazy developers.
